The Hartford Central School District is accepting application for the Middle/High School Principal position (grades 6-12). The Middle/High School Prinicpal is the administrative and instructional leader for the Middle/High School and reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools. Performance responsibilities include:
  1. Recruitment and recommendation of professional and non-instructional staff to the Superintendent. The High School Principal has the subsequent responsibility for orientation of all new high school staff.
  2. Foster a climate for instructional improvement by assisting with planning and implementation of in-service and professional development.
  3. Assist the Superintendent with the observation and evaluation of professional and non-instructional staff assigned to the high school.
  4. In the absence of the Superintendent of Schools from the District, the High School Principal will make the decision, if deemed necessary, of whether or not to close or delay school, or to close early. The decision will be made after consultation with the Transportation Supervisor.
  5. Supervise all extra-curricular activities, assemblies and special events associated with the high school.
  6. Implement all Board of Education policies and administrative rules and regulations relating to the school.
  7. Maintain and oversee the use of school facilities and to ensure that all administrative and Board of Education policies and procedures are followed in relationship to use of facilities.
  8. Supervise the discipline of high school students.
  9. Assist the Superintendent in the development of procedures to protect the health and safety of all persons in the school.
  10. Conduct meetings of the high school staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the high school.
  11. Assist in the development and revision of the instructional program.
  12. Work with the Athletic Director to recruit and recommend coaches for appointment to the Superintendent.
  13. Work with the Athletic Director to review and revise the Athletic Code of Conduct.
  14. Participate in a program of public relations in order to further the community's understanding and support of the educational program.
  15. Oversee the meetings and recommend programs of the Drug Free Schools Program.
  16. Promote and maintain an effective learning environment in the school.
  17. Operate and oversee an orientation program, which familiarizes parents and students of the programs, opportunities and facilities of the high school for the following year's sixth grade.
  18. Keep current with trends, developments and research as they pertain to the education and high school operation.
  19. Assist in the management and preparation of the school budget as it relates to his/her building.
  20. To work with the Elementary Principal regarding the assignment of staff as it pertains to the Master Schedule.
  21. Performance of other duties as the Superintendent may assign.
