The Master Teacher is a highly qualified, State certified teacher responsible for the supervision and coaching of teachers in an on-line environment. The master teacher provides academic direction, support, and guidance. Additionally, the master teacher is a member of the school's academic leadership team, serves as a mentor to teachers as needed and supports the school's student achievement goals.     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
  • Learns the course curriculum for assigned grade levels and content area and is able to demonstrate knowledge of how State standards align with it; Works with teachers to develop a plan for how they augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools. Reviews teacher lessons and monitors teacher grade book, alerts administrators to concerns about teacher performance and progress, maintains regular contact with staff via email, and phone; Conducts regular data conferences with teachers to discuss and evaluate performance and the instructional plan;
  • Functions as a member of the school's academic leadership team; Mentors teachers by providing coaching and informal observations via Data Driven Instructional meetings; Strives to proactively address identified needs and support efforts to improve student performance; Works proactively with administration to support teachers;
  • Supports teachers and parents with student curricular and instructional issues, balances the flexibility of the school's curriculum with policies and procedures; facilitates PLC's on a weekly basis
  • Leads and manages students' academic progress and attendance as the multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) lead for assigned schools; designs interventions, communicates high expectations and show an active interest in students' achievement by supporting all teachers in their efforts to establish positive working relationships between home and school.
  • Creates and manages a home office; supports teachers with the set-up and maintenance of their teaching environment; supports teachers through basic technology troubleshooting and in the Virtual Classroom Environment;
  • In addition to the Master Teacher responsibilities described above, Master Teachers also focus on one or more ongoing tasks/projects related to managing school academics operations such as assisting with: interviewing teaching candidates; training and development of new and struggling teachers; assisting with student-teacher matching; assisting with curriculum orders; maintaining uniformity among teaching procedures; assisting the Academic Administrator/Principal in developing and implementing school policies/procedures; acting as a curriculum expert for a grade level/series of grade levels; coordinating aspects of testing readiness; assisting teachers in addressing low attendance and progress issues; preparing regular reports/facilitating communications; creating or leading regular staff meetings; and assisting with marketing events. Serves as lead for assigned responsibilities such as 504/ELL, Harassment and Bullying Coordinator, School Security Liaison, Crisis Management Team Member.
  • Assists Principal in all duties as assigned including; universal screening, formative assessment and interim data.

  • Collaborates with peers in order to provide a positive experience for students, families, and staff;
  • Travels to, participates and presents in regular staff meetings and professional development sessions;
  • Maintains records regarding teachers in accordance with school policy and State requirements;
  • Prepares reports regarding students and classroom matters as directed.
    Supervisory Responsibilities: Assists Academic Administrator/Principal in mentoring and overseeing 10 - 25 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) and Part-Time (PTE) Teachers. Responsibilities include assisting Academic Administrator in interviewing and training new and returning employees; planning and directing work; meeting with teachers on their team individually on a regular basis; complete asynchronous informal observations on a regular basis to include teacher landing page, lesson plan review and feedback, and Class Connect schedules. Assists Academic Administrator/Principal addressing parent concerns and resolving problems.

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience (preferably in a virtual setting) AND
  • Meets all federal and State guidelines OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Matriculation to advanced leadership degree preferred

Certificates and Licenses: Appropriate State teaching certification.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal skills emphasizing tact, patience and courtesy; ability to establish a professional, effective rapport with families and staff
  • Know all of the technology platforms associated with virtual leadership
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook as well as Internet research methods and report writing techniques; Utilizes computer software associated with curriculum
  • Able to read data and determine what steps are needed to assist students academically on an individual basis.
  • Able to adapt learning plans to meet different needs and learning styles; create an instructional plan favorable to learning and personal growth
  • Work with classroom teachers to support student learning; focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of effective data driven instruction. Provide personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrates the use of good judgment in decision-making

  • Understanding of applicable sections of the State Education Code and other pertinent regulations
  • Willingness and ability to obtain additional licensing as required
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time throughout the State of Florida to support students; attend regularly scheduled professional development meetings and participate in school activities, open houses and orientations, and all in-person leadership meetings
  • Ability to pass required background check including ability to obtain fingerprint clearance (where applicable)
  • Ability to learn new technologies and tools
Desired Qualifications
  • Teacher school leadership experience, especially in virtual or home-based setting
  • Experience with virtual school environment
  • Customer service experience, especially supporting adults and children in the use of technology
  • Proficient in principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development and classroom instruction for special needs students
  • Experience teaching in both online and in a brick-and-mortar environment.
