QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of or eligible for a Postgraduate Professional Certificate.

  • Five years of recent successful mathematics teaching experience at the middle school level.

  • Familiarity with and knowledge of middle school mathematics supplemental resources.

  • Familiarity with and knowledge of the 6-8 mathematics program and knowledge of the recent reform efforts and latest research in mathematics education.

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities as a member of a school staff. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, with professional colleagues, staffs, students, and parents.

  • Leadership in mathematics staff development.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology, especially computer software appropriate to mathematics instruction.


JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is a full time (1.0) position on the teacher's salary schedule with extended days in addition to the regular contract for 2019-2020.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists teachers and principals with mathematics program development. Assists teachers in implementing an effective classroom mathematics program upon administrative recommendation:


  • Demonstrating teaching strategies and methods

  • Developing daily and long-range plans and strategies with teachers

  • Developing organizational and flexible grouping procedures with teachers

  • Plans and works cooperatively with core disciplines and with ESOL/HILT, Gifted, Minority Achievement, and Special Education departments to support joint initiatives.



  • Assists in developing and implementing initiatives to further increase parental knowledge and involvement in their children's mathematics education.



  • Assists in planning and conducting in-service training. Provides regular assistance to middle classroom teachers in implementing ideas and techniques gained through the in-service.

  • Assists middle teachers in integrating effective uses of technology that support best practices in their teaching of mathematics at all levels.

  • Supports middle teachers and administrators in the preparation and monitoring of students for SOL tests and other countywide testing in mathematics.

  • Plans with schools and provides support to more effectively implement SOL remediation plans.

  • Participates with staff in the evaluation of the instructional program.

  • Plans, coordinates, and implements the middle mathematics summer school program.

  • Facilitates communication among middle school teachers to ensure the continuity of the curriculum.

  • Provides leadership to the mathematics lead teachers and the mathematics instructional resource teachers.

  • Provides leadership for middle teachers to implement Investigations and Every Day Counts Calendar Math in the middle schools.

  • Assists the staff in evaluating and selecting new materials. Provides ideas for constructing instructional materials. Recommends professional materials for staff use.

  • Manage electronic reporting tool and collaborate with Special Education to implement the Fast Math Program.
