General Responsibilities:

To assist students as directed by the classroom instructor and help make the classroom a challenging, safe, and stimulating learning environment.

Essential Duties:

To support the classroom instructor.

To assist students as directed by the teacher.

To escort students when required.

To locate and prepare materials for daily class work.

To assist the instructor with classroom bulletin boards.

To grade papers, create worksheets, and perform other clerical duties such as copying, typing, calling parents, etc.

To monitor hallways.

To monitor student behavior.

To guide students integrated into regular ed. classes and assist regular ed. teachers as needed.

To perform bus duty by assisting students off morning buses and helping them board afternoon buses.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

General knowledge of all students – especially those with special needs.

Good communication skills.

Ability to follow directions given by classroom instructor.

General knowledge of community.

Patience.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to lift and assist students as needed.

Serve as role model.

Requisite Education and Experience:

Must possess at least a minimum of a 60 college credit hours, Associate's degree or higher.

Physical Requirements: Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
