Curriculum Coordinator and Academic Resource Teacher

Primary Purpose: Design and implement Language Arts curriculum and ensure curriculum guidelines are functionally integrated throughout the Elementary School. Lead in curriculum development and professional learning. Implement targeted instruction to systematically provide identified students with the additional time and support needed to learn at high levels. This includes remedial, reinforcement, and enrichment experiences for individual and small groups of students.

Essential Duties/Functions:

  • Keep apprised of current teaching and assessment methodologies
  • Manage Language Arts curriculum decisions and facilitate the development of curriculum documents (e.g. curriculum maps and benchmarks)
  • Develop and maintain a curriculum resource center
  • Lead and/or coordinate Language Arts curricular-related meetings and faculty in-service trainings
  • Support and encourage teachers in their professional development, particularly in the areas of assessment and instructional strategies
  • Maintain records and trend data of internal school assessments and communicate data with faculty
  • Work collaboratively with faculty to implement Language Arts curriculum, instruction, assessment changes based on data
  • Lead and/or coordinate new teacher instruction regarding methodologies specific to HBA curriculum (e.g. Gradual Release, Learning Targets)
  • Model sound teaching practices as needed
  • Work collaboratively with elementary, middle & high school principals, HBA Curriculum Director and Supplemental Programs Director
  • Coordinate and work with classroom teachers, peer Academic Resources Teacher, principal and guidance counselor to determine academic needs of students
  • Plan and implement lessons to meet students’ needs
  • Monitor and track progress of students. Report progress to classroom teachers, counselor and principal
  • Share the love and faith in Jesus Christ with students.

Other Duties/Functions:

  • Assist the principal in providing an atmosphere conducive to learning and teaching.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Equipment and Software Use: Computer skills, facsimile machine, photocopier, multi-line push button telephone, Smart Board.  iPad, Google docs/calendars/forms, FinalSite, myBackpack ? Work Hours:  7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Some weekday after-hours and weekend work may be required. Occasional outside workshops and conferences (even during the fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks) may be required.
  • Mental Demands:  Ability to see both overall picture and detail. Ability to do long-range planning. Exercises good judgement, able to make sound decisions, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Physical Demands: A portion of the job is spent sitting in a confined position. Most of the work requires periodic visual/mental concentration on work demanding precise eye/hand coordination.
  • Social Demands: Ability to communicate with all stakeholders in a friendly and concise way.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Spiritual:  Must have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of his/her life and demonstrate a living relationship with Jesus Christ as described in “The Baptist Faith and Message”, the tenets of the Southern Baptist denomination. 
  • Skills/Knowledge:  Knowledge of action research, current educational theories, and child development. Demonstrable organizational and computer skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with a variety of people; team player. Ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential.
  • Education/Training:  Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Experience:  Minimum of three (3) years teaching at the elementary school level.
