JOB OBJECTIVE : The Director of Secondary Education provides leadership in the continuous
improvement of the district’s Grades 5-12 curriculum and instructional programs and supervises the
principals in 3 secondary schools: Woodbury, Shaker Heights Middle School and Shaker Heights High
School.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
● Holds Master’s Degree in Curriculum / Instruction or a comparable field
● At least 3 years of secondary principal experience preferred
● Holds or is eligible for appropriate State of Ohio administrative certification/license
● Satisfies the criminal background check
● Embraces equity, diversity and exhibits cultural competence
● Holds/has ability to receive Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES) and Ohio Principal Evaluation
System (OPES) credentials
● Has experience with Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma
Programmes (preferred)
● Experience with master scheduling, blended learning, and collaboration with institutions of higher
education
● Has implemented strategic actions that resulted in improved student achievement at the secondary
level
● Displays organizational skills, ability to prioritize, work under time constraints and to be flexible in
an environment of multiples tasks and changing priorities
● Demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well and collaborate effectively across a variety of
multicultural, multi-experience, multi-background audiences including students, staff, administration,
parents and the community
● Possesses excellent leadership skills and teamwork
● Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct and embodies high ethical standards/integrity
● Is proficient with current technology and has ability to use technology solutions to increase efficiency
and effectiveness of operations
● Is available to work irregular hours/non-traditional schedule as an "on-call" employee when required


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Promote the District’s mission, vision, and core values as a member of the central office team
2. Assist the Chief Academic Officer in ensuring fidelity of implementation of high quality teaching and
learning and support communication of district objectives/performance goals to stakeholders
3. Support, supervise and evaluate the principals at Woodbury, Shaker Heights Middle School, and
Shaker Heights High School and an Administrative Assistant
4. Work in close collaboration with the Director of Primary Education
5. Direct the unified secondary curricular vision for the District in alignment with: the IB philosophy,
standards and practices, state standards, and strategic action plans
6. Direct the successful use of Managebac as the storehouse of IB units/planners and support the
development, assessment and revision of high quality IB units/planners
7. Support, supervise and evaluate secondary Instructional Coaches. Curriculum & Instruction
Technology Specialist, IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP)
Coordinators, secondary subject area liaisons and other secondary instructional leaders
8. Facilitate successful scheduling of secondary special subjects (art, music, PE, etc.) and field trips
across all schools
9. Oversee the successful planning and implementation of Summer Enrichment Learning and Fun
(SELF) programming
10. Work in collaboration with the Director of Data and Accountability on compliance, testing, and
student information systems efforts
11. Manage all curriculum ordering including textbooks, instructional materials and supplies for
secondary schools/classrooms
12. Plan, facilitate and document all in-district and out-of-district professional learning for secondary
staff
13. Assist with unexpected/urgent situations at the secondary schools as needed
14. Attend professional learning and apply research and data to improve the content, sequence and
outcomes of the development of curriculum and teacher-learning process
15. Perform other specific job-related duties as directed for the effective and efficient operation of district
activities

● Ability to facilitate and/or establish professional learning sessions for staff
● Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
● Adhere to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators
WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be willing or able to:
● Work at a computer monitor for up to 25% of the day
● Work in a high-paced, dynamic environment

● At times, attend outdoor events and work in adverse weather conditions and temperature extreme s
● Interact at times with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals
● Lift, carry or move work-related supplies/equipment of 35 lbs
● Drive and travel to meetings and work assignments in and around the district, city and region
● Possess valid driver’s license
● Maintain a professional appearance and wear work attire appropriate for the position
