BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or general education (GED) with college and training courses in investigations, hazardous material, and safety; five years of experience in a supervisory capacity in safety or security programs; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

•Thorough knowledge of modern methods of criminal investigation and identification;
•Thorough knowledge of best practices to use during a crisis response;
•Considerable knowledge of the court system and presentation of evidence in court;
•Considerable knowledge of criminal law as it pertains to minors;
•Considerable knowledge of fire code and regulations, building construction, and structures;
•Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others;
•Ability to analyze sensitive situations;
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
•Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; and
•Ability to interpret program objectives and policies.

STATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have or obtain, within first 60 days of hire, Virginia School Security Officers (VASSO) certification. PWCS can provide this training in-house for a selected candidate.

This job requires response to emergency/crisis events that may include severe weather or compromised site locations due to incidents that may include a public safety response, "acts of God," and maintenance and/or utility failures. The ability to work, walk, and stand for extended periods of time in conditions caused by severe weather or compromised site locations is required.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

The Administrative Coordinator for Security Services assists in the development, implementation, and management of security programs throughout the Division for the purpose of ensuring the protection of students, teachers, staff, general public, and school property. Decisions and recommendations have a Divisionwide impact and involve sensitive situations. Work is performed under general direction and is reviewed in terms of the accomplishment of objectives. This position is responsible for the effective operation of the Office of Risk Management and Security Services in the absence of the Director.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

•Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in providing a World-Class Education;
•Assists in supervision of day-to-day operations of the office, including budget preparation, interviewing, hiring of personnel, and developing security and safety programs;
•Assists in developing methods of gathering and evaluating data essential to accurately identify disruptive problems and security needs within the schools;
•Implements and monitors approved security techniques throughout the Division; assists in continuing evaluation to determine the need for changes or adjustments when adopted techniques appear to be ineffective; prepares reports and studies relative to the objectives of programs, as required;
•Maintains contact with local law enforcement and fire authorities for the purpose of establishing cooperative security measures; discusses actions aimed at recognizing and averting or controlling potentially explosive situations among students in the schools and investigating vandalism in schools;
•Participates in the preparation and updating of security guidelines for the use of local school administrators which outline appropriate actions to be taken when dealing with crisis events;
•Monitors incident reports for completeness, proper classification of incidents, value of property loss, and estimate of vandalism damage. Prepares cases for court presentation seeking restitution for Division property damages incurred by students and coordinating the collection of awarded funds;
•Supervises, initiates, and conducts complete investigations, upon request, to determine Division liability and prepares reports to include recorded statements, photographs, sketches, and other information;
•Participates in the Prince William County Emergency Operations Center training and preparedness drills and functions as contact in the absence of the Director;
•Supervises the security patrol which provides 24-hour school security coverage;
•Interviews, screens, and hires security patrol personnel;
•Supervises the removal of hazardous materials for the Division by licensed contractors;
•Maintains a working knowledge and assists in evaluation of risk management issues and insurance policy revisions, as required;
•Assists in organizing and coordinating the annual School Security Officer Training and monthly training; and
•Completes other duties as assigned.

Grade 15: $75,196 - $148,544 per year (competitive benefits)
