Essential Functions and Objectives:

Provides leadership in the development, implementation, coordination and support of gifted education identification and programming district wide. Serve as support district wide for all middle / K-8 gifted teachers.

- Serve as a member of the Student Services: Gifted and Talented team to orchestrate district-wide program improvement in identification, curricular modifications, and assessment of gifted learners.

- Act as school/network support and provide additional assistance at the request of networks/schools.

- Communicate with teachers, teacher leaders, and other interested parties concerning curriculum, assessment, initiatives, and professional development appropriate for gifted learners.

- Coordinate and facilitate professional development to support teachers' continuous learning and improvement of practice related to gifted education.

- Create content for and facilitate professional development for central office staff, student support staff, school leaders, schools, and/or cohorts of educators.

- Facilitate and organize committees and interdepartmental collaboration to increase understanding of the nature and needs of gifted learners particularly culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse learners.

- Create, support, and maintain district identification and protocol documents.

- Design protocols to support the identification of culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse gifted students.

- Order curricular materials for specific content area(s) as needed to support gifted learners.

- Develop and revise district-produced assessments including training materials and parent communication.

- Network and partner with colleagues in DPS and with higher education institutions to support gifted students transitions to post-secondary.

- Review and offer guidance for charter and innovation schools in implementation of gifted identification and programming requirements.

- Provide clear, timely and consistent communication to parents

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities specific to this position

- Coordinate and oversee gifted services at the middle and/or K-8 school level.

- Ensure implementation of state mandate regarding development of Advanced Learning Plans for gifted learners in middle school and/or K-8 schools.

- Additional responsibilities may include development and implementation of summer programs for gifted middle school and/ or K-8 students.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

- Five (5) years of teaching experience in gifted education.

- Experience in monitoring curriculum content for gifted learners, identification of gifted learners, data driven instruction and recommending program improvements.

- Experience in high school or middle school preferred.

- Experience with extracurricular activities outside of school year or day preferred.

- C DE teaching certificate with endorsement in Gifted Education

- Valid Colorado Driver's license, appropriate insurance coverage and an acceptable driving record for the past three years.

- Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with colleagues and in designing and facilitating adult learning.

- Knowledge of how gifted students learn and knowledge of best program practices.

- Knowledge of best practices in curriculum instruction for gifted learners.

- Knowledge of effective instructional programs and methodologies and experience in providing such instruction to meet needs of gifted learners

- Knowledge of second language learners.

- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional learning.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking Spanish highly desirable.
