Job Summary: Provides support to multiple school teams to provide behavior management plans for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Trains school teams in the use of assessments such as preference, language, social skills and behavior and specific methods and procedures including Discrete Trial/Intensive Teaching (DT/IT), Natural Environment Training (NET), Pivotal Response Training (PRT) and Functional Communication Training. Provides support to develop data collection systems, functional behavior assessments, positive behavior support plans and family training in these interventions.
Essential Functions
  • Assists school teams with assessing the needs of students in terms of skill acquisition and behavior management programs.
  • Creates classroom schedules with school staff to ensure adequate delivery of skill acquisition programs
  • Provides training on behavior management strategies to address challenging behaviors in the classroom setting.
  • Works with other professionals (speech language pathologists, occupational therapists etc.) to create a plan to address students' needs in all areas.
  • Trains classroom staff in the organization and upkeep of program books, including data collection and creation of graphs.
  • Provides training to classroom staff on writing IEPs that accurately reflect students' needs and potential.
  • Models techniques of reinforcement, prompting, shaping, chaining, errorless teaching and error correction for school staff and families.
  • Ensures accurate upkeep of program books by providing sufficient training to school teams.
  • Recommends and assists in the completion of assessments, such as, but not limited to preference assessments and functional behavior assessments.
  • Assists teams to select behavior interventions, write Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs) and progress monitor behavior interventions.
  • Implements Safety Care procedures to manage challenging and potentially dangerous behaviors.
  • Support school teams to identify barriers to inclusion and support efforts to include students in the least restrictive environment.
  • Trains school teams on skill acquisitions and behavior reduction techniques rooted in the principles of ABA.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, behavior analysis, social work, counseling, psychology or a related field.
  • Three years of full-time, paid professional experience working with students with autism between the ages of 5-21 and has included conducting the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP).
OR
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, behavior analysis, social work, counseling, psychology or a related field.
  • One year of full-time, paid professional experience working with students with autism between the ages of 5-21 and has included conducting the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP).
  • Certified Registered Behavior Technician.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • the principles of Applied Behavior analysis and appropriate interventions and techniques for students diagnosed with ASD.
  • current research regarding methodologies, interventions and treatment for ASD.
  • the best practices for writing Functional Behavioral Assessments and Positive Behavior Support Plans.
  • adult educational training principles, methods and techniques.

Demonstrated ability to:
  • use good interpersonal skills especially with peers, students, parents and supervisors.
  • conduct discrete Trial/Intensive Teaching (DT/IT), Natural Environment Training (NET)/Pivotal Response Training (PRT), Error Correction Procedures, Errorless Teaching Procedures, Chaining, Shaping, data collection and graphing.
  • effectively problem solve and mediate among parties.
  • coordinate and monitor the work of other staff.
  • analyze data and make recommendations on findings.
  • use a personal computer and software applications such as Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • create, maintain and use data for planning and decision-making.
  • assist schools in the development and implementation of action plans.
  • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Additional Job Information: This is a 12-month, non-represented role. The salary grade for this position is 4024.
