Job Summary
Supports the Chief Student Support Services Officer in school climate and safety initiatives. Develops short-term and long-term plans designed to improve school climate and create a safe and healthy learning environment where all children can succeed. Participates in District meetings with students, community members, school-based staff and school administrators about school climate and safety. Assesses school climate and safety and works to indentify appropriate interventions, programs, trainings and plans to improve school climate. Provides direction to central office and school-based climate staff. Directs and coordinates trainings and professional development related to school climate. Maintains knowledge of current trends, research and best practices relating to school climate. Recommends procedural and policy changes to ensure the best interests of students are met. Provides leadership in the areas of school climate and safety. Monitors, evaluates and adjusts assigned programs and activities in response to District initiatives.
Essential Functions
  • Leads and coordinates efforts to address existing and emerging issues which pertain to school climate and safety; coordinates the establishment of timelines to achieve District goals.
  • Supports school administrators and staff in developing school climate plans.
  • Facilitates Professional Development to include, but not limited to: PBIS, Restorative Practices, Mental Health First Aid, Trauma Awareness, Behavior Principles, Social-Emotional Learning, and Conflict Resolution.
  • Fosters and maintains cooperative working relationships with School District administrators, system partners and community organizations.
  • Communicates with administrators, personnel, and external agencies to respond to a variety of inquiries related to school climate.
  • Guides, directs, and advises central office and school-based climate staff.
  • Establishes contacts and collaborates with both internal offices such as the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, Office of Prevention and Intervention, Office of School Safety, Office of Student Placement, and the Office of Specialized Instructional Services and external partners such as the Department of Human Services, the Mayor's Office, the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disabilities, and the Philadelphia Police Department to address school climate and the social-emotional needs of students.
  • Writes proposals for large federal, state and local grants and manages grant funded projects.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ten years of full-time, paid, professional experience, five of which have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity and have included responsibility for implementing school climate and safety initiatives in a large urban school district.
OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Talent.
