IMPLEMENTATION SPECIALIST

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Student Support Services, the Student Support Services Implementation Specialist supports the WCSD Strategic Plan goals and objectives related to special education student performance and student learning by embedded, on-site professional development to build the capacity of special education teachers which will ensure students are performing at rates commensurate with general education peers and/or achieving goals outlined in the IEP. Student Support Services Implementation Specialists will be assigned based on elementary, secondary or program expertise and work directly with special education teachers in schools. Performance data review of caseloads will occur on a quarterly basis with teachers to ensure progress of IEP goals and academic outcomes. In addition, Student Support Services Implementation Specialists will work with school and IEP teams to ensure IEP's are effectively developed and implemented with fidelity. EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Support Services Implementation Specialists will support special education teachers by teaching, modeling, providing embedded training in reading and math interventions, providing guidance on serving low incident populations as well as ongoing observation of special education teachers to ensure effective strategies are being followed and implemented. The Student Support Services Implementation Specialist will also work directly with general and special education teachers to model effective co-teaching strategies, inclusive practices and coordinate with site administrators on how to implement responsible scheduling to ensure students with disabilities are being effectively served and performing at the same level as general education peers.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Education/Experience Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills in qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

1. Equivalent to a Master's degree in an area of special education or related field from an accredited college or university and/or work experience to validate Master level expertise.

AND

2. Experience: A minimum of five (5) years successful classroom teaching, intervention specialist or implementation specialist.

AND

3. Qualification into the Teacher Leadership Pool is required.

Knowledge of: Washoe County School District Strategic Plan; Nevada content and Common Core State Standards; adopted core curriculum materials; and background in researched based reading and math intervention strategies; ability to show competence in working with low incident populations; Understanding of Special Education Law, including IDEA and Sate of Nevada requirements; Background in behavior analytics and Positive Behavior Intervention Supports.

Skill at: Group and 1-1 training/coaching and proven ability to effectively collaborate with school teams and individuals; mastery of effective IEP development and implementation; mastery in proven strategies and experience for reading and math interventions for struggling students; ability to train teachers and staff in functional behavior analytics and positive behavior intervention supports; ability to train and model to teachers on effective strategies to ensure growth of low incident populations; experience in the implementation of co-teaching strategies.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of a valid Nevada teaching license.

Special Considerations: It is desirable that some candidates have experience in dual immersion and have bilingual Spanish skills.

If there are no qualified candidates in the Teacher Leadership Pool who meet the job specific qualifications, a candidate can be hired with a provision that they qualify into the Teacher Leadership Pool within the first year.

The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and will have $55.00 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
