The English Learner Services Director is responsible for the management of State and Federal Title III requirements including professional development, parent and community outreach, and curriculum development. This position requires a high level of specialized expertise in language development and competence in interpreting and applying local, state, and federal policies to program implementation. The English Learner Services Director must dedicate time to collaborating across CMS departments to achieve system-wide success in academic achievement for linguistically and culturally diverse students.
  • Provides expertise and support services to principals and teachers to help them increase English Learner (EL) student learning, success and achievement of district priorities.
  • Works with the Executive Director of EL Services Department to develop the Title III grant application, budget, and performance reports
  • Assists the Executive Director of EL Services Department in the collection and submission of annual state EL headcounts
  • Analyzes EL achievement data to assist schools with determining the effectiveness of instruction for EL students
  • Assists schools and Learning Communities in the development of training plans focused on higher EL student achievement
  • Provides support at schools for Students with Interrupted Formal Education (SIFE)
  • Identifies, implements and monitors the use of appropriate English language acquisition software
