The Section 504 School Level Coordinator is a highly qualified, State certified educator responsible for ensuring students with disabilities, identified by Section 504, are receiving specific and individualized course content based on their 504 plan, in an online environment. Coordinators provide support and guidance to school-level staff and help manage the learning process by focusing on students' individual needs. Coordinators monitor student progress through various platforms, including the K12's learning management system, and they actively work closely with teachers, students and parents/Learning Coaches to advance each student's learning toward established goals based on their 504 plan. Coordinators typically work from home but must travel occasionally throughout the year to various school functions, for State testing and as may be otherwise required by the school.
AS a Section 504 School Level Coordinator, YOU WILL ...
  • Instructional
    • Facilitate school-level 504 plan renewal meetings and plan transfer meetings;
    • Facilitate school-level 504 meetings for general education students approved for Hospital Homebound (HHB) Services;
    • Conduct Manifestation Determination Review (MDR) meetings for school-level 504 students who are on Academic Review Board (ARB); collect data to determine if behavior is a manifestation of student disability;
    • Facilitate the collection and maintenance of student medical documentation; upload documentation in all platforms (i.e. Infinite Campus, SharePoint, OneNote; TVS);
    • Create OneNote pages in SharePoint for all school-level 504 students;
    • Upload testing accommodations into Testing Nirvana; uploads plans for State Testing
    • Respond to flags in Infinite Campus and online platforms;
    • Communicate with parents/Learning Coaches, and teachers regarding all 504 inquiries;
    • Monitor all supports for school-level Hospital Homebound (HHB) students;
    • Conduct classroom visits to monitor implementation of 504 plan accommodations for students;
    • Complete medical forms for eligibility;
    • Facilitate school-based teacher training and answers questions when necessary;
    • Work with the special education team to facilitate eligibility for special education;
    • Review, process, and monitor all special education referrals; attend students' eligibility meetings for Special Education
    • Attend weekly open offices with the compliancy specialist to review data for students;
    • Attend monthly and weekly district, school and department meetings;
    • Provide communication and update regarding 504 to teachers via school newsletter and/or email blasts;
    • Prepare data and attend monthly Data meetings and update information;
    • Meet with school-level leads, administration, collaborating teachers, students and parents/Learning Coaches to discuss student progress and instructional supports through examination of 504 plan
  • Relationship Building
    • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and regularly communicates with students and learning coaches/parents on an ongoing regular basis regarding student academic progress;
    • Elementary and Middle School Teachers support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment, in line with academy policies and procedures;
    • Support students and learning coaches with the set-up and maintenance of their learning environment including basic computer troubleshooting;
    • Understand how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support;
    • Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program, that parents have a central point of contact, and that tasks are distributed among the stakeholders;
    • Respond to students, parents and colleagues in timely manner.
  • Other Essential Functions
    • Organize social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of virtual clubs, outings, marketing events or other extracurricular activities as required;
    • Travel to testing sites to proctor State exams.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.
Requirements
Minimum required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree AND
  • Three (3) years of student teaching experience AND
  • Meet requirements for Professionally Qualified

Certificates and Licenses: Appropriate State teaching certification
OTHER REQUIRED qualifications
  • Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking
  • Knowledge of State content standards and ability to align those with the K12 curriculum
  • Ability to embrace change/ adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes
  • Ability to problem solve independently and have a high level of organization
  • Understanding of interdependency of deadlines on multiple projects and able to act to preserve integrity on other people's deadlines
  • Ability to work independently typically 40+ hours per week
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during work day, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school
  • Ability to travel as required (on average once per month and/or approximately 10% of the time) for face to face professional development, student testing, and as required by school
  • Access to reliable high speed internet
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word; PowerPoint;
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
  • Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs and curriculum
  • Ability to pass required background check
