Purpose and Scope
Provides highly effective leadership to assigned schools by supporting principals, Instructional Leadership Teams, Professional Learning Communities, and Coordinated Support Teams to create synergies for increasing student achievement and meeting other school improvement goals.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Builds principal capacity (i.e. coaching) as an instructional leader, both, in and outside of the classroom to improve student learning and achievement.
  2. Articulates a vision for high quality instruction and use this definition as a lens through which to gauge practice at assigned schools.
  3. Assists in the development and monitoring of the SBB plan with fidelity
  4. Supports assigned schools in the development and implementation of school improvement plans.
  5. Assists principals annually in the Instructional Leadership Team selection process.
  6. Monitors and analyzes academic performance data at assigned schools and provides continuous improvement support to both the Instructional Leadership Team and Professional Learning Communities as necessary. (i.e., Instructional Practices Guides)
  7. Conducts quarterly data sessions with principals to identify trends and create action plans
  8. Assists and guides the development of Cycles of Professional Learning activities to match the quantitative and qualitative needs of schools.
  9. Provides professional development opportunities for individual leaders or clusters of leaders based on specific needs.
  10. Assists and guides the work of cross-functional support efforts to ensure that individual school needs are adequately met.
  11. Ensures -through coaching - that principals understand their data and how to use it to improve practice, strategies, and results consistent with best practice.
  12. Supports schools in implementing curriculum, assessment, intervening, and acceleration strategies.
  13. Guides and assists principals in the development of a strong instructional culture, and collaborative relationship with parents and community stakeholders.
  14. Assesses current resources and identifies the need to reallocate resources to better meet the needs of students.
  15. Provides recommendations for principals and assistant principal hires to the Assistant Superintendent of Schools.
  16. Establishes clear protocols to support school policies and practices and monitors implementation.
  17. Conducts annual performance evaluations on principals.
  18. Monitors school finances to ensure timely and appropriate expending of resources.
  19. Assists principals in the development, evaluation, and monitoring of teacher recruitment and placement in schools to promote the best possible outcome.
  20. Assists principals with interpreting relevant federal and state laws and District policy, in relation to school matters.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction Administration, or other related field. Minimum five (5) years of principal experience. Valid Tennessee Administrator's license, along with other certifications as required by state and local policies (e.g., Tennessee professional teacher's license) or equivalent.

D egree Equivalency Formula :
Bachelor's Degree = 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master's Degree = 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master's degrees are required, years for Bachelor's Degrees must be included. Must be TEM and TEAM certified.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles, practices, materials, and equipment used in modern public school educational settings and an ability to apply them to the needs of schools.
  • Knowledge of current curriculum, instructional practices, and trends.
  • Knowledge of public school organization and administration.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate comprehensive elementary or secondary school instructional programs.
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate the work of instructional and support personnel.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and community.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both, orally and in writing.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment
Physical Demands : Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment; must be able to use hands and fingers for sign language.
Unavoidable Hazards : The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.

Sensory (ADA) Requirements : The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
