BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have an instructional background and/or experience and supervisory/administrative experience in a progressive school division. Must possess leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students, teachers, administrators, parents, community, and government leaders. Must be able to speak and write effectively; possess knowledge of special education law, dispute resolution, supervision, and evaluation of personnel.

STATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess a minimum of a post-graduate professional certificate from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Candidate should be endorsed or be eligible for endorsement in Administration and Supervision.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

The Supervisor of Specialized Instruction of Eligibility, Psychological Services, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) is responsible for the supervision, eligibility process, supervision and evaluation of school psychologists and diagnosticians, as well as collaboratively supporting MTSS; will plan and provide professional development; and will communicate and plan cooperatively with local and state government agencies; will work collaboratively with staff in the Office of Special Education, as well as school-based personnel, to develop and support the delivery of quality special education services and professional psychological services for all students.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

•Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in Providing A World-Class Education.
•Assign schools to school psychologists, consult with school psychologists regarding individual cases, system policies, and general programs.
•Ensure enforcement with local, state, and federal policies.
•Direct, monitor, and assess services provided by the school psychologists and school psychology interns; conduct on-site observations of school psychologists and provide feedback and advice; conduct monthly analysis of referral loads for staff members.
•Conduct monthly staff meetings for school psychologists; provide staff with a written report of information relevant to the Division; provide staff development opportunities and make presentations for classes, parents, and staff on special topics as requested.
•Consult with teachers and principals about general and special education students, students on 504 plans and/or Individualized Education Programs.
•Collect, interpret, and synthesize information about a student's academic achievement, intelligence, socio-emotional adjustments, and significant crises that influence academic and behavioral functioning.
•Provide technical, instructional, and procedural assistance to principals, teachers, and teacher assistants on a regular basis.
•Serve as a member on a variety of Office of Special Education committees.
•Present or arrange workshops and professional development upon request.
•Plan and supervise the work of others, speak and write effectively, and develop effective working relationships with community and governmental leaders, staff, and general public.
•Serve as a resource person in assisting local schools with complex diagnostic and remedial cases.
•Supervise designated clusters.
•Write memoranda and correspondence pertaining to program, as requested.
•Some travel required.
•Complete other duties as assigned.
