Lake Forest Community High School is seeking a full-time Wellness Instructional Director.

Description: The instructional director supervises certified and non-certified personnel within the Health/Wellness and Driver Education Departments, including making hiring, dismissal and tenure recommendations, evaluating of department personnel and administering Board policies within the department.

Essential Duties:

FACILITATING THE DISTRICT'S VISION OF LEARNING
  • Focuses on continuous improvement of instruction through professional leadership and evaluation of staffObserves and evaluates all members of the department providing constructive feedback in order to foster continuous improvement by all staff membersFosters a spirit of continuous self-appraisal among members of the department, utilizing the LFHS Evaluation Model and Student Growth ModelStimulates colleagues to engage in professional discourse and to pursue continuing education consistent with state law, individual, department and district goalsProvides leadership to members of the department, which stimulates professional and personal growth in each memberProvides effective ongoing supervision of department membersLeads the development of the curricular programAssists department members in the effective implementation of the curriculum

FACILITATING SCHOOL CULTURE AND INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM
  • Works with other administrators to develop school district policies in all areas including curriculum, personnel and student life and implements those policies within the departmentOversees alignment to relevant content, skill and social and emotional learning standardsUses department and committee meetings to identify and address important educational objectives to further advance the curriculumAssumes responsibility for orientation and training of new staff membersWorks with department members to develop common curricular evaluation procedures and instrumentsAssesses and recommends refinements of the curricular offerings of the department on a continuous basis

MANAGEMENT
  • Participates in the recruitment of new department members and make recommendations to the Principal on new hires and retention of probationary employeesWorks as part of the administrative team to identify district needs in all areas, develops appropriate procedures and takes action to implement those procedures within the departmentManages facilities, technological and instructional needs and works with other administrators to develop plans to meet the needs of the departmentMakes recommendations for room utilization and the master schedule to ensure courses are taught in appropriate rooms (i.e. rooms with specialized equipment)Makes recommendations to the Principal about departmental assignmentsPrepares and administers departmental equipment, supplies and professional travel budgets and other appropriate accountsMaintains and inventories material resources of the departmentPrepares reports and performs other tasks as requested

COLLABORATION WITH FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES
  • Takes responsibility for student welfare during the entire school and extracurricular dayFosters a sense of responsibility for all aspects of student life in department membersServes as liaison between the department and the schoolParticipates in maintaining good public relations inside and outside the schoolCultivates relationships with area colleges and universities to establish internship opportunities for LFHS studentsCultivates and sustains relationships with local and national organizations to support advancements in education for LFHS students and staff

OPERATING WITHIN POLITICAL, SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, LEGAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXT
  • Prepares and implements remediation plans as required by state law and the Lake Forest High School evaluation plan for any staff members who are rated unsatisfactory; work with the Human Resource Department in any dismissal case involving department membersParticipates in the formulation of school district policy and proceduresDevelops and monitors a departmental budget with the Superintendent's designee through established district proceduresOperates within school policies and implements regulations developed by the district

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), with a General Administrative endorsement or Teacher Leader endorsementMaster's Degree in area relevant to departmental curriculumCompletion of Teacher Evaluation Training - preferredDemonstrated excellence in teaching performance
