Role Summary Requirements and Responsibilities The Manager of Digital Learning is a leadership role within the CPS Information and Technology Management Department, and the ideal candidate will be a highly-effective, flexible innovator. The Manager of Digital Learning reports directly to the Chief Information Officer and will serve as the liaison to CPS' Curriculum and Instruction Department to support convergence in projects and long term goals for digital learning.
The Manager of Digital Learning will be responsible for planning, organizing, and providing leadership in the area of integration of digital curriculum/instruction and in technology tools and strategies to enhance student learning, including blended learning, fully online learning, and technology integration in traditional face to face classrooms. The manager will work closely with the Curriculum and Instruction Department to lead digital curriculum design and fidelity of implementation in schools and classrooms across the school district. While managing the district's digital learning program, the position will also provide guidance and support to teachers, administrators, and instructional coaches through project management, professional development, and the articulation of innovative instructional integration strategies.
PRIMARY FUNCTION Direct and oversee the integration of technology into the classroom. Develop technology curriculum and select technology-oriented learning tools for classrooms. Assist in the development of online publications or programs. Train teachers, staff and administrators, as needed, in classroom technology. Coordinate the management of instructional and non-instructional school computer networks.
QUALIFICATIONS
Training: Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Education, or a related field
Experience:
5 or more years of instructional technology experience in K-12 Education (large urban setting preferred) 5 or more years of classroom teaching experience (large urban setting preferred) One or more years leading technical or other teams, with a demonstrated experience in effective management of projects and individuals Experience in planning, delivering, and monitoring professional learning experiences, and activities.The Manager of Digital Learning should have demonstrated ability and/or experience to:
Knowledge of teaching and learning processes, practices and research. Knowledge of professional learning practices and standards. Knowledge of digital curriculum and alignment of digital learning technology with district and department strategic goals. Knowledge of change management methodology. Ability to lead and effectively communicate with teams to focus resources (both human and financial) toward achievement of expected results. Ability to facilitate group processes in consensus building, conflict resolution, planning and decision-making. Knowledge of Federal/State/Local laws, regulations and programs including CIPPA, e-Rate, FERPA. Knowledge of effective instructional practices and educational standards such as national and state standards. Skill in balancing rapidly changing project priorities with available staff resources. Ability to work with Senior Executives. Ability to work with minimal direction. Ability to manage multiple projects, and priorities. Ability to plan, direct, and implement a complex enterprise technology operations, using manpower, time, funds, and other resources for the accomplishment of long-term and short-term goals of the district. Ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision as needed. Ability to apply budgetary and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints. Ability to organize work effectively for self and an entire team, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes. Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person, and in writing. Ability to effectively managing others. Ability to successfully implement projects and initiatives and deliver results based on organization's goals. Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner. Ability to express complex technical ideas in an understandable manner. Develop and implement a plan for district-wide digital learning that promotes the effective use of technology in daily instruction through the design and facilitation of engaging learning experiences and activities, including blended learning, fully online learning, and technology integration in traditional classrooms. Collaborate with schools, principals, department heads, teachers, and students to develop the skills and environment necessary for digital teaching and learning, incorporating best practices for technology integration. Serve as the liaison to CPS' Curriculum and Instruction Department, ensuring seamless implementation of cross-functional projects and long-term digital learning goals that impact students, teachers and classrooms. Develop and monitor implementation of K-12 technology curriculum. Develop and implement a professional development plan to support the digital learning goals of the district. Develop school-level technology leaders (technology coordinators and technology teachers) who will help support and implement the digital learning plan. Design, develop, promote and manage the implementation of the district's digital citizenship plan. Collaborate with school-level technology leaders and/or technology committees for each school building to guide effective implementation of the digital learning plan and utilization of the digital curriculum. Model the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization and management tasks. Keep abreast of the current trends and best practices in instruction and technology integration and represent the district as an expert on these and other (related) topics and make recommendations for the direction of district technology and digital learning program. Oversee the training of district staff in the use of technology. Coordinate training and documentation for the effective use of technology. Coordinate training to encourage integration of technology into the curriculum Supervise all personnel within the digital learning team. Manage immediate supervision of members of the district digital learning team, including evaluation. Coordinate activities of outside vendors, consultants and trainers.EMPLOYMENT PROVISIONS
