   License and Certification Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Educator's Certificate in Educational Leadership and/or Support Personnel License issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. UNIX/Linux certification such as LPIC or Linux+ preferred.

Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related field required. In lieu of Bachelor's degree, will consider high school diploma or equivalent with 10+ years of mid-to-senior level experience working in the information technology field.

Experience Qualifications: At least eight years of AIX, Linux, BSD, and/or Solaris systems administration experience required. At least five years of experience managing hypervisors such as VMware, Xen, or KVM highly preferred. Experience with enterprise server and network monitoring solutions such as Nagios, OP5, MRTG, or similar preferred. Cross-platform experience with Windows Server and Active Directory preferred.

Skills Qualifications: Ability to handle ambiguity, multi-task, and work in a high stress environment; knowledge in the concepts, methodology, and functionality of UNIX operating systems; skills in configuring server equipment and related hardware and software requirements; ability to work well and communicate with others in an effective manner, both written and oral; ability to analyze and solve problems; ability to translate needs and problems into creative solutions; strong and effective communication and customer service skills with the ability to work well across departmental boundaries and effectively negotiate solutions; knowledge and ability to perform as the technical team lead; ability to manage and evaluate a diverse staff with little or no assistance; and ability to manage projects.

Primary Responsibilities: Provide management, oversight, and expert-level guidance for the enterprise UNIX environment objectives including coordinating daily operations and hardware/software lifecycles.

1. Coordinate administrative and operational support for the enterprise UNIX environment objectives.
a. Develop and establish a comprehensive plan for highly available UNIX services.
b. Coordinate and manage appropriate patch and maintenance levels on all hardware related to the UNIX platform.
c. Communicate with vendors regarding server and operating systems reliability and failures.
d. Coordinate and manage monitoring of UNIX systems.

2. Coordinate development of the UNIX systems environment.
a. Evaluate current resources and capabilities, future goals, industry trends, and technological advances to develop and maintain UNIX server resources in support of teaching and learning.
b. Manage, monitor, and evaluate progress of various projects including contract services.
c. Assist in the research and development of various systems and components prior to integration with the district network platform.
d. Ensure staff compliance with technical standards.
e. Perform analysis and troubleshooting tasks when necessary.

3. Coordinate customer and intra-departmental relations.
a. Establish ongoing communication with school and/or site administration in the event of a prolonged issue/outage until resolution.
b. Coordinate customer requests/problems, provide direction, and determine needed course(s) of action.
c. Work effectively with customers in day-to-day operations as well as crisis situations.

4. Provide continuous quality improvement to departmental processes.
a. Perform continuous evaluation of departmental processes and recommend methods to improve operations.

5. Provide leadership and managerial support to the enterprise systems management team.
a. Conduct annual performance reviews of technical staff and ensure performance goals correspond with the district's vision.
b. Report status on assigned tasks and projects to management and users.
c. Conduct regular status, progress, and continuous improvement initiatives with staff and contracted personnel.
d. Provide and maintain technical standards and guidelines.
e. Maintain familiarity with staff and contractors' needs and encourage feedback while considering options to provide optimum service to both end-user customers and Information Management Technology (IMT) departmental customers.

6. Perform other duties as assigned.
