This position requires travel throughout the State and LAVCA office visits three to four times a month and/or when deemed necessary per Special Programs Manager.

The Educational Diagnostician primary function is to enable students to derive the maximum educational experiences from school attendance by providing comprehensive Educational Diagnostic services to students in need of such assistance. The Educational Diagnostician provides direct services to local schools, such as assessments, in-services and consultations concerning intervention strategies, referrals and follow-up. The Educational Diagnostician collects, and compiles data as needed for the department, district, State and federal reports and assists school staff in crisis intervention.

AS AN EDUCATIONAL DIAGNOSTICIAN, YOU WILL ENJOY...
  • Explains and interprets the Educational Diagnostic program to principals, teachers, parents and other members of the school.
  • Evaluates (as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and in accordance with the guidelines set forth in Bulletin 1508 and the regulations implementing ACT 754) those suspected of needing Special Education services.
  • Interprets assessment findings and confers with principals, teachers, parents, the Special Program Manager, evaluates (as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and in accordance with the guidelines set forth in Bulletin 1508 and the regulations implementing ACT 754) those suspected of needing Special Education services. and other Parish professional staff whenever necessary on matters relative to assessment; learning/teaching strategies; recommended interventions; and other areas within the expertise of the Educational Diagnostician.
  • Provides or assists in the provision of in-service training of school personnel on topics such as pupil appraisal educational diagnostic program, and other areas of expertise.
  • Assists teachers in the design and the implementation of educational interventions for referred students.
  • Maintains accurate case records on all students regarding enrollment in the Educational diagnostic Program, initial screening and individual evaluations and other services provided by the Educational Diagnostician in accordance with the requirements of Parish, State and Federal laws, regulations and/or policies.
  • Attends scheduled and assigned staff, professional, and district meetings when applicable.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the area of educational diagnosis and informs other appropriate school personnel.
  • Participates in designated Special Education eligibility determinations and serves as coordinator of evaluation process.
  • Insures the overall conducting of an individual evaluation
  • Completes all required reports when applicable for K12, the district, and/or the State Department of Education.
  • Tracks referred students through the evaluation process beginning with the request for services and ending with the distribution of the evaluation report or summary.
  • Reviews screening and other assessment data to design communication questions and recommends appropriate disciplines for the student's evaluation as needed.
  • Insures the interpretation and integration of the results of the assessments. If discrepancies exist, the evaluation coordinator and other involved disciplines will identify and clarify the discrepancies.
  • Evaluates the comprehensiveness of the integrated report and insures that copies are signed and disseminated.
  • Attends initial IEP conferences and insures that other appropriate team members represent the evaluation when deemed necessary.
  • Maintains accurate case records on all students regarding their referrals, evaluation and other services provided by the evaluation coordinator in accordance with the requirements of Parish, State , and Federal laws and/or policies.
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities assigned by the Special Program Manager.
  • Supports the school administration in the enrollment of special education students.
  • Test administrator or proctor for site-based exams;
  • Adhere to all policies as set forth in the employee handbook.
  • Address work issues by following chain of command.

COMPETENCIES
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following
competencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook as well as Internet research methods and report writing techniques
  • Utilizes computer software associated with curriculum


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in education or other related field of study
  • Educational Diagnostician certification valid in Louisiana
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as Educational Diagnostician
  • Available during work hours of 8am - 5pm.
  • Strong interpersonal skills emphasizing tact, patience and courtesy; ability to establish a professional, effective rapport with students and parents
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrates the use of good judgment in decision-making
  • Great organizational and time management skills
  • Appearance and demeanor reveal a positive attitude.
  • Customer service orientation
  • Understanding of applicable sections of the State Education Code and other pertinent regulations
