    Job Description

    Job Title: High School Building Principal

    Department: Administration/High School

    Supervised by: Superintendent

    Purpose: To provide leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills that promote the educational development and achievement of High School students and staff in support of the Waterbury Public Schools' mission and belief statements.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Leadership/Management Responsibilities:
  • Manage and oversee the administrative and daily operations of the High School.
  • Be knowledgeable of and enforce:
  • School Board Policy
  • Administrative Guidelines
  • Master Agreement with Teachers Association
  • Provide supervision of student behavior through enforcement of school rules and student code of conduct.
  • Ability to establish relationships with students, staff, community, parents and outside agencies.
  • Works with Central Office Administrators and all departments within the Education Department.
  • Responsible for the safety and administration of the building, grounds, employees, students and visitors.
  • Evaluate certified staff members and certain non-certified staff members as specified.
  • Be aware of the latest educational research and practices to improve teaching and learning in building.
  • Oversee guidance, pupil personnel and programs.
  • Balance the workload of teaching staff, schedule student teachers and substitutes.
  • Oversee student academic programs.
  • Attend special events held to recognize student achievement, school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.

    Instructional Leadership:
  • Provide direct supervision and implementation of State Standards/Curriculum and NEASC initiatives.
  • Lead and assist teachers in data analysis and its impact on instruction, school improvement efforts, and overall student achievement (CAPT).
  • Assume responsibility for staff and personal Professional Development.
  • Direct and provide supervision of the General Education Intervention Program.
  • Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Initiate, design, and implement programs to meet the specific needs of the school.
  • Encourage positive teacher/student relationships through differentiated instruction.
  • Promote the integration of technology into school programs.
  • Possess basic knowledge of AS400 and FCS, to assist in developing the Master (academic) schedule for the school.

  • Minimum Job Requirements:

    Posses or be eligible for a valid Connecticut Administrative Certification.

    Three years of administrative/leadership experience (Vice Principal, Middle School Building Principal, Supervising Vice Principal, Curriculum or Special Education Supervisor or an equivalent position).

    Minimum of seven years successful teaching experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    * Knowledge of the high school curriculum.
    * Ability to provide leadership to school community.
    * Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
    * Maintain interpersonal skills with staff, students, parents, community and outside agencies.
    * Ability to supervise, evaluate, and hire both effective Certified and Non-Certified Staff.
    * Ability to lead a staff and community through school improvement efforts.
    * Ability to use school data to develop school goals and improve student achievement.
    * Knowledge of current and emerging educational developments and trends.
    * Competence in decision-making and problem solving.
    * Ability to manage financial resources.

    Salary and Benefits: According to SAW Contract
