We are seeking a full-time Learning Specialist/Special Educator to focus on supporting students experiencing social emotional challenges and/or needing academic support in math/literacy beginning with the 2019-20 school year. The position will case manage, coordinate and implement effective and efficient interventions for special education at our Thomas Fleming Elementary School (Grades 4 and 5) designed to meet the needs of assigned students, including academic needs, and effectively integrate students into the least restrictive environment. The position shall involve consultation to teacher teams, team teaching, and evaluating and developing intervention programs with a focus on literacy, math and behavior.
Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
- Hold or be eligible to hold a valid VT Educator license with a Special Educator (3-82) or Consulting Teacher (3-85) endorsement preferred. Other teaching endorsements considered for candidates with a strong background in working with students with special needs.
- Strong math and/or literacy background
- Strong background in behavior intervention preferred. Familiarity with trauma-informed classrooms/teaching desired.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a vertical teaching team, and as a team of learning specialists
- Successful co-teaching experience desirable
- Demonstrated commitment to the belief that all children can learn and succeed in school
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in implementing standards based curricula, differentiated instruction and formative assessment in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MTSS and experience working in schools that have implemented this systems approach desirable
