The RTI/MTSS Behavior Specialist is a highly qualified, State certified educator responsible for delivering specific behavioral interventions in an online environment. Specialists provide support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual behavioral needs. Specialists monitor student progress through various platforms, and actively work closely with teachers, students and parents/Learning Coaches to advance each student's behavior toward established goals. Specialists typically work from home but must travel occasionally throughout the year to various school functions, for State testing and as may be otherwise required by the school.
AS a RTI/MTSS Behavior Specialist, YOU WILL ...
  • Instructional
    • Determine functional behavior capabilities of students in virtual classroom and designs behavioral interventions;
    • Assist teachers in: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents;
    • Analyze functional behavior and multi-faceted behavior interventions;
    • Provide intervention supports and progress monitoring for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students; Keeps attendance reports on student participation; enters weekly Progress Monitoring data points in Infinite Campus
    • Coordinate between teachers, parents/Learning Coaches, and students to develop behavior interventions and resolve issues;
    • Assist students to determine inappropriate behavior and develop appropriate actions for good interpersonal skills;
    • Understand typical school age behavioral conditions such as intellectual disabilities, autism, and special education regulations;
    • Create and execute behavioral assessment and assists LC's to facilitate behavioral interventions;
    • Monitor and adjust programs when children respond to services received from outside services;
    • Implement behavior support plans to measure goals and objectives and ensures meeting them;
    • Coordinate with special education district staff to collect, monitor, and analyze data for ensuring instructional strategies for effectiveness;
    • Complete Tier 4 referrals in Infinite Campus
    • Present and participates in special education eligibility meetings;
    • Create behavior support plans in times of display of inappropriate behavior;
    • Coordinate with parents/LC's, teachers, colleagues and admin when needed;
    • Evaluate, assess, implement, and update support programs and interventions;
    • Provide communication and updates regarding RTI for school board report and to teachers and school admin via school newsletter and/or email blasts
    • Prepare data and attend monthly Data meetings and update information
    • Attend RTI and staff meetings
  • Relationship Building
    • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and regularly communicates with students and learning coaches/parents on an ongoing regular basis regarding student academic progress;
    • Elementary and Middle School Teachers support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment, in line with academy policies and procedures;
    • Support students and learning coaches with the set-up and maintenance of their learning environment including basic computer troubleshooting;
    • Understand how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support;
    • Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program, that parents have a central point of contact, and that tasks are distributed among the stakeholders;
    • Respond to students, parents and colleagues in timely manner.
  • Other Essential Functions
    • Organize social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of virtual clubs, outings, marketing events or other extracurricular activities as required;
    • Travel to testing sites to proctor State exams.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.
Requirements
Minimum required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree AND
  • Six (6) months of student teaching experience AND
  • Meet requirements for Professionally Qualified

Certificates and Licenses: Appropriate State and subject teaching certification.
OTHER REQUIRED qualifications
  • Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking
  • Knowledge of State content standards and ability to align those with the K12 curriculum
  • Ability to embrace change/ adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes
  • Ability to problem solve independently and have a high level of organization
  • Understanding of interdependency of deadlines on multiple projects and able to act to preserve integrity on other people's deadlines
  • Ability to travel as required (on average once per month and/or approximately 10% of the time) for face to face professional development, student testing, and as required by school
  • Access to reliable high-speed internet
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word; PowerPoint;
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
  • Ability to pass required background check
desired QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with Special Education students and proposed age group
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
  • Experience working in a virtual environment
  • Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or in a brick and mortar environment
  • Experience with Blackboard Collaborative or other online platforms
  • Minimum of 5 years successful classroom experience in which teaching "at risk" and/or "behaviorally/challenged" students was an important responsibility of the position
  • Knowledge of the Response to Intervention (RTI) Tiered systems of support
  • Knowledge of research-based behavioral interventions and monitoring tools
