Job Description: TFamily & Community Engagement / Homeless Coordinator at East Boston HS, builds capacity for authentic engagement and supports effective partnerships among students, families, schools and the community to ensure student readiness and achievement. Working with families, the Coordinator will equip and empower them to effectively support their child's learning.

Working in conjunction with School Support Team, parent leadership, and community partners, the Family and Community Engagement Coordinator will collaborate and connect around student learning and outcomes as well as track and support with student attendance. The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of family and student engagement research, and demonstrated success in the practical application of the research, particularly as it relates to implementing strategies that make the connection between engagement and improved student outcomes. This position will also work in collaboration with partners of East Boston HS to ensure grants and funding for community partnerships, field trips, and academic enrichment.

Responsibilities:
  1. Support the improvement of student outcome and strengthen the engagement of families as partners.
  2. Promote the East Boston's vision for family and student engagement
  3. Develop, manage and facilitate innovative approaches to engaging families in children's math and literacy learning at the elementary level; including parent-child approaches to learning;
  4. Work with the team members to develop appropriate family education offerings
  5. Identify best practice and high impact strategies that link family and student engagement to learning, and develop tools for both families and schools to support effective implementation of strategies;
  6. Leverage various types of social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, webinars, Youtube videos, cable television, etc.) to further learning for all parent populations.
  7. Perform other related duties as requested by the Principal.
  8. Write or facilitate grants to secure funding for the school and family in need.
  9. Develop and sustain effective community partnerships, Outline your partnership's vision and mission with the assistance of your newly assembled partners and community members affected by the issue or problem.
  10. Review and respond to student absence data, creating intervention plans and communicating regularly with teachers and families. Data should be regularly monitored and consistently managed.
  11. Model and oversee family engagement best practices for classroom teachers.
Qualifications - Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field or commensurate experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in program design and curriculum development
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively with culturally, linguistically, racially, socio economically, and religiously diverse populations and to successfully teach and adapt to all learning styles
  • Demonstrated success working with families from historically marginalized populations
  • Proficiency with MS Office, especially MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google and other applicable software
  • Strong organization and planning skills and attention to detail
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
Qualifications - Preferred:
  • Experience working with families in an urban setting
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean, Somali, Chinese, or Vietnamese preferred)
  • Experience coordinating and programming a technology center
  • Knowledge of BPS curricula and instructional practices
  • Background in adult education with previous experience teaching adults
This position requires flexibility that will include working evenings.

Terms:
Managerial Tier B

Note:
School-based Managerial employees will work 223 days each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school.

School-based Managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based Managerial employees need not report to work.
