The Director of Special Programs coordinates educational, administrative and counseling activities of students with identifiable needs by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

The below State ments are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required; other duties may be assigned.
AS A Director Of Special Programs, YOU WILL..
  • Ensures conformance of educational programs to State and local school board standards through evaluation, development and coordination activities; As needed, researches and implements non-K12 curriculum resources that meet State standards;
  • Manages Special Education teaching staff; Manages Master and Lead Teachers and programs;
  • Assists in assuring compliance to IDEA
  • Ensures that the school is meeting the needs of students while complying with local, State , and federal laws regarding special education, Section 504, ELL and TAG students
  • Helps articulate the school's mission and vision with the aim of ensuring all stakeholders have a common understanding and are positioned to work cooperatively in order to achieve desired results; Utilizes/relies heavily upon communication technologies and practices that most effectively support a predominantly virtual / remote work environment
  • Recruit and manage contracted staff to provide Related Services to students with disabilities
  • Assist in developing Pre-Referral Interventions
  • Oversee the facilitation of RTI programs (K-12)
  • Serve as AD on IEP Team and Evaluation Team meetings
  • Manage IEP Software Program
  • Participate and lead professional developments
  • Facilitate staff meetings
  • Assist in new teacher training
  • Address prospective parent questions regarding the provision of special education services
  • Develop and implement Section 504 procedures
  • Oversee the facilitation of Section 504 Team Meetings (K-12)
  • Assist in management of school operations
  • Complete and submit required reports
  • Recruit/interview teaching candidates
  • Aid in coordination of testing readiness efforts, logistics, and delivery
  • Evaluate special education teachers
  • Submit project summaries and feedback to school administrator
  • Requisitions and allocates supplies, equipment, and instructional material as needed;
  • Actively participates in all school leadership team meetings.

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.
Requirements Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
  • Current Oregon Administrative License
  • Valid credential in the field of Special Education
  • Previous special education experience
Preferred Experience:
  • A basic understanding of critical research pertaining to student achievement, online learning, and research-based instructional strategies
  • Project management experience
