BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education and Experience
• Master's degree in science, educational curriculum, administration/supervision, professional development, or a post graduate professional certificate; and
• Five years of teaching experience in science is preferred.

Required Licenses or Certifications
• Must hold or be eligible to hold an endorsement in Administration and Supervision.

Other Requirements
• Experience in administration and supervision is preferred.
Knowledge of:
• English grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
• Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment;
• Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
• Science and family life education curriculum, instruction, and technology;
• Educational research and current literature on effective science programs and family life education and instruction;
• Effective use of technology in the development and monitoring of science and family life education programs and practices;
• Research-based practices and resources;
• Professional development planning and presentation;
• Local, state, and federal reporting requirements;
• Principles and practices of public school administration, administrative methods and techniques, and trends in public school education; and
• Prince William County Public Schools policies and procedures.

Skill in:
• Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships;
• Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature;
• Delivering professional learning to educational leaders to effect changes in the delivery of science and family life education instruction;
• Producing reports and analyses in clear and concise formats;
• Collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data for various audiences;
• Assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, and reviewing work assignments; and
• Tracking and monitoring of budgetary funds.

Ability to:
• Research program trends and practices;

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

The purpose of this job is to work collaboratively with Division personnel, supervisors, school administrators, teachers, and the Office of Student Learning to oversee science and family life education programs that foster individual student achievement in science and family life education and continuous instructional improvement through best practices identified through research and data analysis.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

• Works collaboratively with all stakeholders in Providing A World-Class Education;
• Provides leadership for the development, implementation, and monitoring of the science and family life education curriculum;
• Collaborates with other professionals to design and implement professional development opportunities for science and family life education;
• Works with Risk Management to develop, implement, and monitor safety protocols for instructional activities in lab settings;
• Plans, implements, and monitors the science and family life education program budgets;
• Supervises, monitors, and implements state and Division initiatives and requirements concerning all aspects of the science and family life education programs;
• Supports science specialty programs;
• Communicates with administrators and other professional staff members concerning all aspects of the science and family life education programs;
• Communicates with parents and community members concerning all aspects of the science and family life education programs;
• Maintains knowledge of current trends and effective practices related to curriculum and instruction in science and family life education;
• Maintains liaisons with community colleges and universities to provide a complete and sequential instructional program for Prince William County Public Schools students;
• Serves as a liaison with state and federal initiatives related to curriculum and instruction in assigned areas;
• Prepares, analyzes, and submits reports, studies, correspondence, and other appropriate documents as required;
• Assists administrators with teacher observation and evaluation;
• Supervises and evaluates personnel;
• Facilitates the review and recommendation of science and family life education curriculum resources and textbooks;
• Provides oversight of the Eastern Area Grounds for Learning Environmental Science (E.A.G.L.E.S. center facility and the Watershed Education program for Prince William County Public Schools;
• Collaborates with school leaders to support the Divisionwide instructional programs conducted at the planetarium at Hylton High School;

• Collaborates with school leaders to support the Divisionwide instructional programming made possible through the observatory at Forest Park High School;
• Serves as the Director of the Regional Science Fair for Prince William County Public Schools, City of Manassas Public Schools, Manassas Park Public Schools, and participating private and parochial schools;
• Supports Human Resources by interviewing applicants and conducting content screenings; and
• Completing other duties as assigned.

SALARY:
Grade 18: $90,536 - $168,586 per year (competitive benefits)
