POSITION: Middle School Health Teacher
REPORTS TO: 6-8 Building Principal
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt/10 month



GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the 6-8 building principal, this position will primarily focus on the social and emotional well being of students, including developing a growth mindset, healthy body image, healthy relationships, drug and alcohol awareness, personal hygiene, bullying, social media awareness and healthy habits. Additionally this position will educate on sexual identity and promote mindfulness. The Health Teacher will also work with support staff, and counselors to respond to data obtained through the Youth Risk Behavior Survey as well as other databases.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid NYS Teacher Certification required
  • Health or Science Certification preferred
  • Must follow the NYS Must follow NYS Health, Physical Education and Family Consumer Science Standards as well as incorporate NYS Framework for Mental Health and Social Emotional Learning Benchmarks

INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning and literacy strategies.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules, expectations, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students in diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Commitment to the success of all children.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates success in collaborative teaching, managing a mixed-ability classroom and facilitating performance-based learning.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, Tapestry Charter School mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
