POSITION: 9 - 12 Instructional Coach
REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum and Instruction
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt/10 month plus 10

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, this position is responsible for assisting in the professional development of teachers at Tapestry Charter School. This includes mentoring new teachers, leading professional development, running coaching cycles and using data to drive instruction. The Instructional Coach is critical in supporting the mission and values of Tapestry to educate and inspire a diverse community of learners by engaging them in rigorous real-world learning experiences which prioritize intellectual, social and emotional growth.

RATIONALE: In alignment with our School Improvement Plan, strategic objective #1 states that we will increase the level of rigor in all content areas K-12. Strategic objective #2 states that we will improve literacy skills across all grade levels K-12. We will accomplish these strategic objectives with the following initiatives which are to be supported by the 6-12 Instructional Coach:

  • Coaching cycles with teachers in grades 9 - 12
  • New teacher mentoring with teachers in grades 9 - 12
  • Facilitate the creation of vertically aligned curriculum
  • Facilitate the creation of interim assessments aligned to state tests
  • Facilitate professional development in alignment with our SIP goals

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assessment
  • Assist with state testing in grades 9 - 12
  • Administer NWEA in grades 9-12
  • Create a system and monitor interventions in grades 9-12
  • Oversee the new intervention system in grades 9-12
  • Provide teachers with support using assessment tools such as eDoctrina
  • Create the assessment and intervention calendar with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Professional Development
  • Oversee development, plan and execute weekly 9 - 12 professional development with the other coaches, Director of Curriculum and Instruction and principals
  • Plan and execute back-to-school professional development with principals, Director of Curriculum and Instruction and other coaches
  • Plan and execute new staff orientation with principals, Director of Curriculum and Instruction and other coaches
  • Provide support for new department chairs and team leaders
  • Mentor new teachers in grades 9 - 12
  • Work with principal to oversee commonalities and expectations 9 - 12
  • Complete walk through observations in grades 9- 12 with site principals and other coaches

Collaboration with coaches and site administrators
  • Participate in weekly meeting with other coaches to facilitate best practices
  • Participate in weekly meetings with 9 - 12 principal to share updates on initiatives

Curriculum and Instruction
  • Facilitate the creation of 9 - 12 vertically aligned curriculum
  • Facilitate the creation of interim assessments aligned to state tests
  • Lead data analysis meetings 9 - 12
  • Support teachers with curriculum development and specific instructional needs
  • Facilitate the creation of new course curriculum 9 - 12 as necessary

Additional Duties
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, Tapestry Charter School mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
