The Holmes Innovation School is in the process of becoming an EL Education elementary partner school. It proudly serves students in K0-5 in the heart of Dorchester. Crew must collaborate as an effective team member and have the knowledge and experience in implementing Common Core State Standards. They must have experience implementing Expeditionary Learning, guided reading, readers/writer's workshop, and ability to implement station/center-based learning in literacy and math. They must commit to working in a progressive innovation school and must sign the election-to-work agreement. Finally, they must be able to learn from failure.


The Holmes Innovation School seeks an exceptional math instructional coach. The Holmes School is an innovation inclusion school, which serves students in K0-5 in the heart of Dorchester.

Position Title: Instructional Coach- All Grades
Reports to: Principal /Headmaster

General Description:

Instructional coaches work with teachers and school administrators to enhance teachers' ability to provide instruction that is engaging, academically rigorous, culturally responsive, and aligned to the curriculum standards and frameworks. Coaches focus their work on the implementation of school and district instructional priorities and adopted curricula, using student performance data and classroom observations to guide their work. Using the structures of department/grade level team meetings, contractual professional development hours, Collaborative Coaching and Learning (CCL) and classroom based coaching, coaches work with teachers in small groups and one-on-one to support their improved practice. The instructional coach will also evaluate teachers at the Holmes.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coach and evaluate inclusion based teachers on math instruction
  2. Familiarity with Engage NY Math curriculum, Math Investigations curriculum/TERC
  3. Implement the Common Core Standards
  4. Experience in providing professional Development in Math conceptual understanding and math planning and the workshop approach for math
  5. Experience and skill implementing guided math group and/or math interventions
  6. Effective communication skills and demonstration of strong collaborative relationships with colleagues and leadership
  7. Develop curriculum maps aligned with Common Core Standards in math
  8. Facilitate data inquiry cycle meetings in Math and ability to use data to create instructional re-teach plans and strategic plans for instruction in math
  9. Schedule and organize Peer observations, instructional rounds and/or Collaborative Coaching and Learning Cycles (CCL)
  10. Participate in weekly administrative team meetings
  11. Agree to the Election to Work Agreement terms of the Holmes Innovation School annually.
Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelors Degree
  2. Massachusetts Teaching License in the related field (Moderate Disabilities Grades PreK-8, Elementary Grade 1-6 and Math certification K-8)
  3. ESL Certification or SEI Endorsement
  4. Experience and demonstrated expertise as a teacher in coaching content area
  5. Demonstrated presentation/facilitation skills required to facilitate CCL, grade level/departmental teams, etc.
  6. Ability to implement all the components of the Collaborative Coaching and Learning (CCL) model
  7. Demonstrated capacity to design and implement professional development
  8. Interpersonal skills to build collegiality, provide advice and coach
  9. Organizational skills/the ability to plan strategically


Preferred
  1. Teacher Certification
  2. Master's degree
  3. Experience teaching/working in an urban setting
  4. Experience teaching the Expeditionary Learning (EL) Curriculum (Math)
  5. Experience with Literacy Collaborative
  6. Competence in more than one language (preferable)
  7. Special education/ELL credential, experience, and/or expertise
  8. Strong background with Boston Public Schools' curricula
  9. Content specific certificate/license (Elementary education and Special education preferable)
  10. Knowledge of adult learning theory
  11. Knowledge of the use of instructional technology, including its use to analyze student performance data
