Adjunct Teacher, Musical Theater Accompanist

The Theater Department at Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 is seeing an instructor in Musical Direction and Accompanying to begin in the 2019-2020 school year to work 15 hours a week at a competitive hourly rate with no health benefits with students ranging in grades 14-18 as well as to collaborate with faculty on department wide projects and student showcases.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in music with an emphasis in choral singing, possess teaching experiences, and an understanding of the best pedagogical practices for teaching vocal music. The applicant will inspire and bring enthusiasm to students from a wide range of backgrounds and instill a positive attitude towards music for all. The teacher must be able to play the piano and have experience accompanying solo and choral singers along with conducting a student orchestra.

Salary:
$35.38 an hour

15 hours per week

Qualifications:
- Classically trained musician/teacher able to work with students of all ages and teach performing techniques to actors including, but not limited to: intonation, breathing technique, posture, and sight singing.

- Must have extensive knowledge of musical theatre repertoire and be able to teach voice class and music theory.

- Teaching experience with diverse audiences?middle school, high school, university and /or community settings

- Excellent oral and written communication skills

- Collaborative and creative team player

- Collaborative work with community arts organizations

- Preference given: B.F.A. in Music or professional experience equivalent.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Introducing musical theater students to a wide range of musical theater repertoire representing a diverse range of cultural voices and artists.

2. Teaching artists to think critically through creative problem solving, experimentation, and inventiveness.

3. Serve as the teacher of record for 3-5 courses within the musical theater curriculum.

4. Maintain up-to-date and accurate attendance and grade records for all students.

5. Regular communication with students, parents and other theater staff to share artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues.

6. Serve as the musical director for several department and school-wide performances.
