Teachers will provide incoming third and fourth grade students with targeted and differentiated reading and writing instruction in an engaging, summer learning environment with curriculum they co-develop via a summer program professional learning community.

Highline Public Schools serves approximately 19,000 students in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, Boulevard Park and White Center Heights in Washington State. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. - Use teacher created curriculum and develop daily lesson plans to meet the learning needs of striving incoming third and fourth grade students who need additional support in reading and writing in the concentrated time allowed for summer school. Individualize instruction whenever possible to meet student needs. - Utilize formative assessment to critically inform instruction, being prepared to establish student growth both as a reader and writer, as well as a learner. Evaluate and communicate student progress regularly throughout the session. - Establish clear parameters for student behavior in the classroom in accordance with the values of positive behavior intervention supports. Where necessary, discipline students in a firm and controlled manner. - Encourage students to develop courtesy, self-control, respect, and responsibility. Instill in students a growth mindset towards their studies. - Assist other teachers, administrators, and support personnel in maintaining order and a positive learning environment in the summer program. Be willing to team teach if circumstances allow.

ELEMENTARY SUMMER SCHOOL TEACHER While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach above and below their shoulders and bend/twist at the waist. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
