    SUMMARY
    The GEAR UP 189 student services coordinator is responsible for cultivating a dynamic co-curricular experience for members of the classes of 2019 and 2020 through program development and planning, event management, and GEAR UP Cabinet advisement and support. Working both independently and collaboratively with students, staff, administrators, and parents, the SSC will drive initiatives and experiences designed to nurture, enhance and support students, preparing them to become future community leaders.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline-specific content area or in Education, Psychology, or Sociology.
  • Minimum of three years' experience working with disadvantaged students or students in a secondary school aged educational setting.
  • Experience developing academic intervention programs.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in education, student development, counseling or administration.
  • Candidates who have experience working with low-income, first generation students or programs or have overcome barriers similar to target population. Professional experience working with a TRIO program or other federal grant programs.
  • Prior experience developing student leadership programs is strongly preferred.

  • DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: (May not include all duties performed):
  • Work closely with the Program Manager to develop a vibrant college tour schedule.
  • Identify summer co-op/internship experiences for students.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop, promote, and implement high-quality social, cultural, and informational student programs and initiatives.
  • Advise the GEAR UP Student Cabinet.
  • Develop, implement and coordinate student leader trainings in alignment with student learning outcomes.
  • Be actively involved in district activities/committees which directly impact/reflect the interests of program participants.
  • Evaluate the impact of services provided to program participants.
  • Monitor and document the social progress of program participants (number of disciplinary referrals, engagement in athletic and other activities, leadership positions, etc.)
  • Encourage students to enroll in a four-year college or university after high school graduation.
  • Assist students in the successful completion of college eligibility requirements and in becoming college-ready.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Adhere to district/school policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as necessary to the position.
