DESCRIPTION of POSITION:
The School Social Worker is directly responsible to the Director of Special Education. The School Social Worker provides services to children and their families within the school district. The social worker functions within the guidelines provided by the department to which he or she is assigned.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
The School Social Worker shall:
1. Be directly responsible to the Director of Special Education.
2. Be responsible for the identification of and provision of social work services to students with social and emotional problems.
3. Conduct the socio-developmental studies required as a part of the total evaluation of children in special education.
4. Function as a member of the Special Education and Student Services teams.
5. Provide consultation to school personnel.
6. Work within the school setting and the community in developing programs for school children.
7.Perform such duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of
1. Current social work principles and practices.
2. Educational programs, curriculum, and instructional practices that support student learning.
3. Applicable school and district policies and procedures.
Skills:
1. Interpersonal communication skills
Ability to:
1. Plan, organize, and administer the delivery of social programs and services at the designated school and for specified programs and services.
2. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
3. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
4. Work collaboratively in a team setting
5. Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
6. Meet district standards of professional conduct as outlined in the Board Policy.
TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Illinois State Licensure as a School Social Worker
2. Master's Degree in Social Work preferred
3. A minimum of three(3) years of experience working with children in a high-needs environment
