Title: Coordinator, Architecture & Engineering

Position Summary:

The Architecture and Engineering Coordinator collaborates with the Director of Capital Planning, Facilities Services, Construction Program Management, and various departments and consultants to develop and maintain the District's facilities to include writing specifications for contracts, managing the Capital Reimbursement program with the GA DOE and scoping new construction projects as needed in the District The incumbent in this position is responsible for on-going research and updates to the District's Design Requirements and communicating with the GA DOE. The Coordinator is also responsible for coordinating, planning, assessing, implementing facility projects within Fulton County Schools (FCS). This position has a strong emphasis on building planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works with architects and engineers during construction to ensure compliance with FCS quality standards and specificationsGauges and gathers feedback from maintenance staff and end-users on mechanical and electrical issues, structural and architectural issues, and site/civil issues, concerns and improvementsProvides technical status updates to the program manager, architects, and Community Construction Advisory Committee during the construction phaseCoordinates with IT Department regarding scheduling the installation of technology within facilitiesCoordinates with Principals and Academics Leadership regarding design and construction schedules and to ensure the District design standards are supportive of the District's instructional visionVerifies that project designs are compliant to FCS's Educational Specifications, Design Requirements, and public safety protocolAssists program manager and architect/engineers in review of test and balance commissioning activitiesAssists Capital Planning Director by managing and researching necessary updates to the FCS Design Requirement as requested by FCS departmentCollaborates with program managers and architects to scope mechanical and electrical systems, structural and architectural systems, and site/civil areas for new facilities, additions to existing facilities, and renovations to facilities for local schoolsAssists Capital Planning Director with the annual Georgia Department of Education application process for construction project reimbursements through the Local Facility PlanReviews FCS Design Requirements and Educational Specifications and recommends modifications and additions as necessaryCoordinates with the Procurement Department to prepare performance criteria for new contracts needed by the departmentConducts planning and research activities related to facility efficiency and the enhancement of the learning environmentMaintains and develops relationships with local and state building authoritiesPerforms other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Education and Experience:
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Construction, or related field or equivalent experience (2 years of similar work level experience = 1 year of college - total of 8 years) requiredMaster's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Construction, or related field preferred

Experience:
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience working as an architect, engineer, contractor, or related field requiredExperience with an Architectural and/or Engineering firm managing multiple facilities and/or experience in a similar leadership role in a large school district preferred

Certification:
  • Registered Architect or Registered Professional Engineer preferred

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates substantial knowledge relating to mechanical and electrical systems, structural and architectural systems and site/civil areas such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, energy management, security, power distribution systems, etcMust possess professional understanding of construction, design, project management and contract compliance in the K-12 environmentExtensive knowledge of building construction, finishes, and mechanical and electrical systemsAbility to interpret and apply building and safety codesAbility to effectively communicate and present at large meeting (staff and community)Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilitiesAbility to work independently or as a team memberMust be able to collaborate effectively with District and school personnel, the general public, and work with diverse groups of peopleProficient in Microsoft Office, project management tools, and AutoCAD (or similar application)Excellent communication skills both written and verbalExcellent organizational and leadership skills

Salary Information:
Salary Range for 2018-2019
  • $72,576 - $85,655

Step placement credit may be granted for up to a maximum of 8 years (Step 9) of prior verifiable experience. Salary placement with Fulton County Schools is non-negotiable. Actual salary placement will be based on Fulton County Board of Education experience calculations from the Non-Teaching Salary Schedule B-235, Executive Scale, Step 1 - Step 9.
