POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Network Director resides in the Office of the Associate Superintendent within the Division of Elementary and Middle Schools of the Boston Public Schools, reporting to the Associate Superintendent.

The Network Director is responsible for assisting two Academic Superintendents in their support of schools within school networks. The Network Director will serve as an auxiliary central office liaison to approximately 12 to 20 schools. The Network Director will support the Academic Superintendents in designing school-based plans, building capacity, developing strategies for continuous improvement, and empowering adults to deliver for students in order to advance the mission of the Boston Public Schools.

The Network director will have a particular emphasis on facilitating and coordinating the various types and levels of central office supports that are meant to eliminate barriers that would otherwise prevent school leaders from focusing on the evolving needs of their students.

The Network Director will assist the Academic Superintendents through connecting the support afforded to schools by various central office systems, encompassing the Operational Superintendent(s) for the school networks, the Offices of Academics & Professional Learning, Special Education, English Learners, Opportunity Gaps, and Social and Emotional Learning & Wellness to ensure that schools have all appropriate supports and resources. In coordination with representatives from the Office of Data and Accountability, the Network Director will help the Academic Superintendents to ensure data-driven strategies are employed across schools. The Network Director will also provide support to the Academic Superintendents through the coordination of network support from other BPS central office departments including but not limited to the Offices of Human Capital, Finance, and Engagement.

The Network Director will occupy a mid-level managerial role within the Office of the Associate Superintendent. The Network Director will also be responsible for having a particular focus and interest in ensuring cross-departmental organizational effectiveness. Ultimately the Network Director works at the direction of Associate Superintendent and the Academic Superintendents to help ensure schools prepare students for college, career, and life readiness.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Facilitation of Central Office Support to Schools
  • Assist the Academic Superintendent in executing on the plans to address the individualized needs of schools within school networks by helping to facilitate a range of support and, at the direction of the Academic Superintendent, conducting school-based analysis of school communities' priorities and needs
  • Coordinate between the Academic Superintendent and central office departments that deploy direct support to schools to ensure differentiated supports are afforded to schools based on individualized school community needs
  • Support the Academic Superintendent and central office departments to develop strategies to maximize resources and within schools and across the networks

Support in the Identification of School Needs
  • Maintain and strengthen lines of communication between schools and the central office in order to foster an awareness of individualized school needs
  • Represent the interests of schools within designated network in the determination of how best to allocate limited human capital and financial resources in order ensure a coherent and strategic approach to differentiated supports for schools
  • Identify and help to strategize around peculiar and emerging challenges being faced within school communities and work within the central office departments to ensure responsiveness by the appropriate stakeholders
  • Conduct analysis and collect information and data on a continuous basis as to the evolving needs and concerns of school communities and school leaders

Operationalizing Strategies for School Improvement
  • At the direction of the Associate Superintendent and Academic Superintendents, plan, organize, and facilitate forums to examine current and proposed instructional practices and/or analyze how to best cultivate learning environments conducive to student growth
  • At the direction of the Associate Superintendent and Academic Superintendents, plan, organize, and facilitate forums to examine current and proposed professional practices and/or analyze how to best cultivate professional environments that are conducive to professional growth and student-centered mindsets
  • Make frequent goal-oriented visits to schools in order build relationships with and solicit feedback from school leaders
  • Support the Academic Superintendents with additional duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED :
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 - 7 of year of managerial experience
  • Experience working in a diverse, urban setting
  • Experience working in a cross-function role and with competing demands and limited time
  • Ability to leverage data to support teams and drive supports
  • Considerable experiencing working in or around school environments
  • Team-oriented disposition and eagerness to work in a cross-functional role to support schools
  • Strong work ethic and ability to adjust to and respond to evolving needs of individual school communities and district
  • Experience working among diverse cultures and commitment to equity across racial, ethnic, linguistic, and socio-economic demographics
  • Comfort with fast-paced and high-pressure work environment
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
  • An understanding of and commitment to gain greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment.
  • A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education.

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED :
  • Master's degree in educational administration, education, and curriculum development
  • Experience working in schools enjoying rapid student growth
  • Deep knowledge in urban school leadership, school/district improvement strategies
  • Valid Massachusetts teaching certification
  • Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools
This is a non-union managerial position.

Terms: Managerial Tier D, Residency in the City of Boston is required at the time of hire.
