Title: Dean of Academies (Managerial Tier B)
Reports to: Head Master / The English High School
Terms: Managerial Tier B, City of Boston Residency Required, Full Time

General Description and Goals:

The English High School Dean of Academies will work closely with the Headmaster or designee to ensure the safety of the school, ensure school wide and classroom specific safe instructional transitions, as well as holding students accountable for their personal development and growth as global citizens. The Dean of Academies will adhere, enforced, and follow all the School' Student Handbook and the Code of Conduct policies, protocols, and procedures described and approved by the Boston Public Schools' School Committee.

Responsibilities:
  • Follow the English High School vision, mission, goals, target, benchmarks, and Faculty and Staff Handbook policies and expectations.
  • Work closely with Student Support Team in providing the leadership in generating and implementing interventions that support our students.
  • Collaborate with team to identify appropriate tiers supports for students with academic, behavioral, social and emotional needs making the appropriate in-house and outside referrals.
  • Maintain a systematic and accurate record of school climate referrals.
  • Collect, analyzed, synthesize, and share data that can be used by teachers, parents, administrators, and partners to monitor student academic, emotional, behavioral, and psychological positive growth on a bi-weekly basis. The data will come from referrals.
  • Hold parental, teachers, staff, partners' meetings in order to resolve school climate related issues.
  • Support with the Restorative Practices circles and peer-mediation practices.
  • Decide on the steps necessary to restore the integrity of high rigorous students' conduct, citizenships, and social expectations.
  • Identify and support positive school climate and safety of the building.
  • Work closely with the school's Partnership Coordinator for alignment and mainstream of support provided by in-house and external partners. This person will also support with professional development for parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide to the Headmaster or designee with data, Early Warning Indicators report, and daily updates on the school's climate and culture gains.

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate or BA/ BS
  • At least 3 years of working in an urban school setting
  • At least 2 year experience working with discipline issues in a school environment
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
Terms: Managerial Employee Tier B
This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement.

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school.

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
