REPORTS TO: Sr Nursing Administrator
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE: Stipend position of $1500.00 in accordance to CSHS grant funds. The team leader is to provide leadership, guidance and support to all school nurses assigned to their tier group in order to facilitate optimal departmental standards and outcomes.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
Provide leadership, guidance, and support for school nurses. Activities will include but are not limited to:
Attend monthly meeting and work with team members (nurse administrator, nurse manager, nurse specialists, and other team leaders) as requested by nurse administrator or needed to coordinate planning/activities
Collaborating with the school nurses assigned to the assigned tiered team to develop goals and strategies
Promoting a work environment conducive to harmonious work relationships and high staff morale
Hold/Facilitate one monthly extended day nursing staff meetings to promote effective communication and information sharing
Acting as a role model in all activities within the department
Ensure nursing care provided by nursing team members is in accordance with the appropriate professional and nursing standards. This may be achieved by:
Understanding, promoting and helping to update policies, protocols, and departmental guides
Being a resource to nurses provide guidance for policies and procedures
Oversee the health office compliance of assigned team for evaluation, consistency, and improved outcomes. Current compliance factors include: Monthly reports; Principal reports; Immunizations; Screenings
Provide medication co-signing for verification of orders
Maximize the education and development of staff and self. This will be achieved by:
Assist in orientation of new staff
Conduct training(s) as needed (EpiPen, CPR) and identifying further training needs or opportunities for improvement
Assist in ongoing education programs for staff
Utilizing professional knowledge and skills to present for professional development
Promote, monitor and participate in all quality improvement activities
Identifying real or potential quality problems and possible solutions
Constructively responding to complaints that involve the nursing service
MINIMUM JOB
QUALIFICATIONS:
Current license as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
Licensed or eligible for MDESE licensure as a Professional School Nurse with at least 3-5 years of experience in school nursing
AHA CPR instructor
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Team development and people management
Strong interpersonal communication
Clinical competence in the area of school nursing
Sound knowledge of computer-based programs and platforms utilized by the nursing department, ei: Microsoft, MySPS applications, SNAP
Ability to work as a member of a team
