Title: Instructional Support Teacher, Behavior Specialist

Description:

• Assists school/cluster-based personnel in improving the quality of teaching and student learning for students with Autism and Behavioral disabilities;Assumes responsibility for the knowledge and application of the appropriate behavioral techniques, curriculum and the instructional programs for students with disabilities in compliance with all State and Federal laws, State Department of Education, and Fulton County Board of Education policies, rules, and regulations, including the Georgia Performance Standards

Job Summary:
Instruction:

• Models and supports special education instructional staff in organizing, identifying, and implementing curriculum including Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) and the adapted curriculum while implementing appropriate behavioral interventions and positive behavior supportsParticipates in professional learning activities and plans/delivers professional learning activities to staff, parents, and others to increase achievement for students with behavioral disabilitiesCollaborates with parents and local school staff regarding instructional decision-making for students with disabilitiesProvides technical assistance, modeling and other support required to ensure, improve, monitor and assist with students who demonstrate disability-related behavioral needsAssists teachers in improving classroom management and climate through the implementation of effective instructional methods

Due Process:

• Maintains communication with special education staff, local school personnel, and parents regarding the referral, evaluation, identification, and effective programming for students with behavioral disabilitiesConsults with local instructional staff regarding Individual Education Program (IEP) development, extended school year, behavioral interventions and transition plans for students as assignedCollaborates with appropriate school-based personnel to assure timely data input/submission for students with disabilities (eSchool Plus, EasyIEP, etc)Completes educational assessments for students referred for evaluation as assignedMonitors assessment timelines to ensure adherence to State regulationsDevelops FBAs and BIPs, as required within assigned school(s)/clusterConsults with local school staff and coordinates/conducts discipline review/manifestation determination meetings as neededAssists and supports special education teaching staff with the accurate documentation of data to reflect student progress for students with disabilitiesCollaborates with appropriate school-based personnel to assure accurate FTE reporting for students with disabilitiesMay collaborate in the Student Support Team (SST) upon requestAttends District and Cluster IST meetings and shares information with appropriate local building personnelPerforms other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Qualifications:

• Master's Degree requiredMust hold or be eligible to hold Georgia certification in one or more areas of Special EducationBoard Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Certification strongly preferredAbility to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issuesAbility to plan and implement short and long-range goals and objectivesAbility to work with collaborative teamsAbility to use Microsoft Office and other system software programsExcellent interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with students, parents, administrators and staffExcellent organizational skillsExcellent communication skills both orally and in writing

Required Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years teaching experience or related educational experience providing services to students with disabilities required

Salary Information:
Actual salary placement will be based on Fulton County Board of Education experience and education calculations from the Teacher Support Salary Schedule (190 Days).
