QUALIFICATIONS :
(1) Graduation from an accredited College and a master's degree in School Psychology or equivalent;
(2) New York State Licensed Psychologist
(3) Three (3) or more years' experience in providing psychological and educational testing, scoring and report writing to students with disabilities, preferred.
(4) Three (3) or more years' experience in providing counseling and supportive mental health services to students with disabilities, preferred.
(5) The ability to successfully complete a Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) at the proficiency level defined for each job position as determined by SMSD. Must have or desire to learn and become proficient in American Sign Language.
NOTE: The School may also require employees in this classification to complete successful training in behavior management programs including but not limited to TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) which will be provided by St. Mary's School for the Deaf.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Will work with the entire school community to foster mindfulness and sustain a socially and emotionally safe environment
- Attend Committee on Special Education and Preschool meetings as an active participant
- Conferencing with parents to review reports and explain information in parent friendly language
- Provide effective counseling to school-aged students and support the students in achieving academic success
- Developing strong relationships with parents, staff and students to create investment in school culture and academics
- Participate in Response to Intervention meetings and Student Support Team meetings to assist in determining which students require academic and/or social/emotional intervention, and what interventions would be appropriate to provide
- Conduct functional behavioral assessments, developing behavior intervention plans, and monitoring progress for students in need of greater support with behavior management
- Manages the student's psychological files, dates when testing is required and updating of IEP's
- Meet with students for individual counseling sessions and case management of students school wide such as transition services and assisting families in receiving services within the community
- Collaborates and works with teachers to support student academic achievement
- Attends all required meetings, staff, departmental, IEP, District CSE
- Responsible to test, observe, score, write intake and other reports, as required
- Responds to emergency situations as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
