The Lead Master Teacher is a highly qualified, State certified teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an on-line environment. Teachers provide instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs. Additionally, the position acts as a member of the school leadership team, managing/supervising and/or mentoring teachers and supporting virtual academy (VA) efforts to improve student performance.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Assists in supervising Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Teachers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; meeting with teachers on their team individually on a monthly basis; appraising performance; complete mid-year and end of year evaluations; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Function as a member of the school leadership team; Manage/supervise and/or mentor teachers in the VA providing coaching and formal evaluation; Strives to proactively address identified needs and support VA efforts to improve student performance;
  • Orient students to their course, communicate requirements, set and enforce deadlines, maintains regular office hours and conducts instructional sessions for approximately 30 students; Understand how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support;
  • Learn the entire K12 curriculum for assigned grade levels and is able to demonstrate knowledge of how State standards align with it; Augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools;
  • Support teachers and parents with student curricular and instructional issues, balance the flexibility of the K12 curriculum with Academy policies and procedures;
  • Review student work and monitor teacher grade book, alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress, maintain regular contact with students and families via the Virtual Classroom Environment, email and phone;
  • Create and manage a home office; support teachers with the set-up and maintenance of their learning environment; support teachers through basic computer troubleshooting;
  • Focus on one or more ongoing tasks/projects related to managing school operations such as: recruiting/interviewing teaching candidates; training new teachers; implementing teacher evaluation processes; assisting with student-teacher matching; maintaining uniformity among teaching procedures; developing and implementing school policies/procedures; acting as a curriculum expert for a grade level/series of grade levels; coordinating aspects of testing readiness; assisting teachers in addressing low attendance and progress issues; preparing regular reports/facilitating communications; and assisting with marketing events.
  • Collaborate with peers in order to provide a positive experience for students;
  • Build community by contributing to school message boards, newsletters and events;
  • Travel to, participates and presents in regular staff meetings and professional development sessions;
  • Maintain records regarding students in accordance with school policy and State requirements; prepares reports regarding students and classroom matters as directed;

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree AND
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience of AND
  • Meets State 's No Child Left Behind's (NCLB) Highly Qualified Teacher requirements

Certificates and Licenses: Appropriate State teaching certification.
OTHER REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWELDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Project management experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills emphasizing tact, patience and courtesy; ability to establish a professional, effective rapport with students
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook as well as Internet research methods and report writing techniques; Utilizes computer software associated with curriculum
  • Able to read data and determine what steps are needed to assist students academically on an individual basis.
  • Able to adapt learning plans to meet different needs and learning styles; create an instructional and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrates the use of good judgment in decision-making
  • Great organizational and time management skills
  • Customer service orientation
  • Understanding of applicable sections of the State Education Code and other pertinent regulations
  • Willingness and ability to obtain additional licensing as required
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time within and between assigned geographic areas to support students; attend regularly scheduled professional development meetings and participate in school activities, open houses and orientations
  • Ability to pass required background check including ability to obtain fingerprint clearance (where applicable)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Teacher supervision or school leadership experience, especially in virtual or home-based setting
  • Experience with charter school environment
  • Customer service experience, especially supporting adults and children in the use of technology
  • Ability to learn new technologies and tools
  • Proficient in principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development and classroom instruction for special needs students
  • Experience teaching in both online and in a brick-and-mortar environments
