Description

Job Description Overview:

Under the direction of the Director of Student Services, the Student Services Coordinator provides leadership, supervision, coordination, and support for special education and student services in assigned grade levels/buildings.

The coordinator collaborates with regular and special education teachers, student services staff, supervisors, and administrators in the areas of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), assessment, accommodations, and interventions. Additionally, the coordinator monitors compliance and allocation of resources including budget and staffing at the building level for the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) and monitors compliance with Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Student Services staff regularly examine how their personal experiences and biases impact their ability to effectively serve all students. They possess a deep understanding of the systemic biases within the education system which serve to perpetuate inequities for some students and families. They understand their role as a change agent and work with other staff, students, and community to redesign the system in a manner which actively repays the educational debt owed to historically marginalized students and families.

Qualifications:


Demonstrates leadership ability and expertise in student services and special education.


Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills.


Five years of experience in student services or special education preferred.


Master's Degree in Educational Administration, an area of Student Services or Special Education preferred.


Administrator License preferred.

Job Description:

The primary role of this position is to assist the Director of Student Services in the oversight and leadership for student services and special education. Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Student Services Coordinator duties include but are not limited to the following:


Serves as Local Education Agency (LEA) representative at Evaluation and IEP meetings.


Collaborates with the development and revision of district policies and procedures.


Ensures IDEA compliance including evaluations and Individual Education Plans (IEP).


Monitors and supports the implementation of IEP programming and placements including coaching and modeling.


Completes a review of records of transfer students identified with disabilities to ensure proper placement and appropriate services are provided.


Evaluates special education paraprofessionals.


Leads in creating and monitoring proactive systems of support for students to allow for collaborative problem solving among staff, students and parents.


Assists in the development of student and staff schedules including student grouping and caseload determinations.


Provides input to administrators in the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of certified staff.


Serves as an LEA to private schools as assigned by the Director of Student Services.


Coordinates alternative education or alternative placements as determined by the IEP team.


Monitors compliance with Section 504.


Leads mandated DPI reporting processes related to students with disabilities and Medicaid billing


Serves as a member of building and district level leadership teams.


Coordinates events for students with disabilities including child find.


Serves in a leadership capacity for an area of professional development (e.g. paraprofessionals, non-violent crisis intervention, student services departments).


Monitors inter-agency agreements and collaboration for students with disabilities.


Promotes equity in programming for all students with a focus on students of color, students with disabilities, and students who are bilingual.


Develops, collaborates, and provides professional development in areas related to student services.


Coordinates and collaborates in the manifestation determination and student expulsion process.


Collaborates with the administration in Special Education compliance and procedures in regards to discipline, FBAs, BIPs, best practices, and continuum of special education services.


Serves as a member of the building and district-wide emergency response team.
