ABOUT THE JOB
This unique position is categorized as a COSA (Counselor on Special Assignment) and is guaranteed for two years. The position will be evaluated based on the success of recruitment and training of high school leaders. Evaluation criteria will be developed to measure success.
HOURS AND DAYS WORKED
Counselor on Special Assignment-OutdoorLab
Annual Position
FLSA: Exempt
FTE: 1.00, Hours/Day: 8.00, Days/Year: 195
Salary Plan, Grade, Step: JCE - Professional - 185 days, GR1, 1
Min-Mid Annual Salary Range: $40,989 - $57,654
RESPONSIBILITIES
SUMMARY : The primary role of this position is the recruitment and retention of high school aged students as one-week Outdoor Lab leaders. Be a liaison between OELS (Outdoor Education Laboratory School) staff and high school counselors as well as the neighborhood schools who will use those leaders. Must be a natural collaborator, facilitate groups, and provide Outdoor Education based training for school staff & high school leaders.
REQUIRED:
Primary contact between HS Counselors and Outdoor Lab Program.
Share duties with 6th grade teachers on training of high school leader (HSL).
Coordinate as well as run the first HSL meeting at the High School.
Assist HSL contacts with finding additional leaders when needed.
Be the Liaison for Outdoor Lab at High Schools.
Keep HSL Handbook/Agendas up to date.
Keep Cluster Recruitment Documents up to date.
Create Google folders for each cluster to be shared with HS Counselors.
Assist with HSL observations (completed on site).
Plan and run a counselor breakfast to build connections with the counselor contacts and share information with them regarding recruitment, changes to the program, etc.
Assist with Intern Recruitment.
Liaison with Youth Advisory Committee (OL Foundation).
Effective time management and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability and desire to work with diverse populations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
Networking skills to work with, gather, and connect students to neighborhood schools,
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent technology skills.
Demonstrated facilitation skills.
Ability to plan and conduct professional development activities for school staff and counselors throughout the district.
Demonstrated ability to maintain quality communication with multiple audiences (teachers, administrators, students, parents, central office staff, articulation area personnel.
Willingness to be accountable for tangible results particularly the retention of recruited HSL (high school leaders).
Other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED:
Hands-on experience recruiting HSL (high school leaders).
Experience facilitating professional development.
Experience with Outdoor Education.
