ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Mortensen Elementary School is proud to serve our community as we strive to nurture, empower, and inspire all our students to become successful learners in a world full of possibilities. Mortensen serves approximately 350 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, Mortensen is located in Littleton, Colorado. Our school is pleased to host a Jefferson County preschool program and a center program for students with severe-needs autism. Mortensen is proud of our welcoming learning environment! Our teachers are In-Field and are dedicated to meeting the needs of all of our students. As a Positive Behavior Support school, students follow our Bulldog BEs: BE Respectful, BE Responsible, and BE Ready to Learn! Wonderful parent volunteers assist in our classrooms and support our many activities. Annual traditions include our New Parents Bootcamp, Fall Barky's Bonfire and Picnic, Doughnuts for Dads, Muffins for Moms, and our amazing Children's Theater production in May. Our children feel safe with our excellent Watch D.O.G.S. program for dads and grandpas. Along with many other clubs and activities, we offer exemplary music, arts, and physical education programming. The Mortensen community values an environment of creative, innovative, and cooperative learning, and we are continually aligning our efforts with the Jeffco Generations - a learning-centered vision for our community's schools. Min-Mid Annual Salary Range: $40,989 - $57,654

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY Develop, implement, and support individualized practices for achieving learning outcomes for students with significant communication, cognitive, and/or social/behavioral needs, based on the requirements of Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA). Will utilize evidence-based best practice and rely on frequent progress monitoring for programming adjustments. The ASD teacher will take a leadership role in collaboratively problem solving interventions for students. An essential part of this position is to effectively organize and coordinate the responsibilities of multiple adults in the educational environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Understand, interpret, and implement educational assessments and prescriptive and data driven instruction relying on frequent progress monitoring for adjustments.

Implement evidence-based best practice, including multiple methodologies, individualized for students with significant needs autism.

Develop appropriate plans and materials for effective instruction in multiple educational settings.

Develop and implement positive behavior support plans and facilitates the use of alternative communication systems.

Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Is aware of requirements of IDEIA and conduct IEP meetings accordingly.

Comply with Exceptional Student Services and District policies and procedures (e.g., Medicaid billing, accident reporting).

Organize and supervise multiple adult responsibilities within the classroom.

Maintain positive communication and relationships with general education teachers, school staff, and parents.

Create a safe environment for students that ensures quality instruction and quantifiable student progress.

QUALIFICATIONS Hold a valid Colorado teaching license with Special Education Generalist endorsement.

EXPERIENCE Has experience/supervised internship in working with students with significant communication, cognition, and/or social/behavioral needs. Can provide evidence of supervision and leadership of multiple adults. Has prior experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum in an educational setting. Has a working knowledge of and/or experience with Applied Behavioral Analysis. Has a working knowledge of and/or experience with modified benchmarks and access Skills. Training emphasis in LD/PC preferred.
