    Providing interpretation/translation for students, parents, staff and community while sustaining a high level of customer service. Qualifications: Education & Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent, plus two years of college in advanced Spanish courses.
    • More than three years of experience in translation of documents, interpretation and community outreach.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Proficient and literate in both English and Spanish.
    • Ability to translate documents and other communication from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.
    • Ability to test students with designated Spanish language assessments, scoring oral and writing components.
    • Basic mathematical skills.
    • Personal computer and keyboarding skills.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of personnel in a positive and cooperative manner.
    • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
    • Ability to read, understand and interpret policies and procedures, laws, rules and instructions.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Ability to pass various pre-employment background screenings.
    • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, building and department procedures.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain communications by:
  • Meeting with supervisor and/or District staff, e.g., projects, District needs.
  • Being accessible via District communication devices.
  • Responding to requests submitted electronically.
  • Provide professional translation services by:
  • Processing translation requests, e.g., letters, forms, tests, newsletters, booklets, website content.
  • Researching terminology specific to the subject matter, e.g. health plans, legal, sports, educational.
  • Provide professional interpretation services by:
  • Interpreting for educational proceedings, e.g., Individual Educational Programs, READ Plans, assessments, parent/teacher conferences, expulsion hearings, manifestation determination meetings.
  • Interpreting for District events, e.g., graduation, community engagements.
  • Interpreting for school functions, e.g., PTA/PTO, parent coffees/gatherings, school-related events.
  • Provide educational resources by:
  • Creating and maintaining a glossary specific to District terminology.
  • Updating District publications as required, e.g., learning targets, Rights and Responsibilities , Handbooks.
  • Communicating grammatical changes to appropriate personnel.
  • Developing and delivering training to interpreters.
  • Participating in required professional development.
  • Adapting and facilitating parent training programs.
  • Coordinates logistics of interpretation/translation services by:
  • Recruiting, interviewing, and assessing potential interpreter candidates.
  • Identifying District certified interpreters based on eligibility criteria.
  • Scheduling interpreters for variety of activities, e.g., parent/teacher conferences, PTA/PTO, presentations.
  • Monitoring interpreter performance based on feedback and other criteria.
  • Verifying time clock entries.
  • Scheduling and participating in parent/teacher meetings as needed, e.g., discipline, medical, procedural.
  • Provide services to the District by:
  • Ensuring completed tasks meet District standards.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality of any information regarding students, personnel and all job-related matters.
