ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Warren Tech is the premier Career and Technical Education (CTE) center for Jefferson County Public Schools. An educational and technological leader, Warren Tech integrates academics in career and technical education, preparing students for both college and career. Warren Tech students are engaged and committed to their programs, which is evidenced by a 93% attendance rate, 96% graduation rate, and a 97% program completion rate. Virtually all programs offer academic credit in 11th or 12th grade math, science, and English, which counts toward their graduation. AP coursework is also offered by some programs. Another hallmark of Warren Tech's success is the college credit awarded to our students each year. Last year, our students earned nearly 13,000 Red Rocks Community College credits. A large number of students attend colleges and universities after finishing Warren Tech, and some students have even earned an Associate's degree in a Warren Tech program before they finish high school. Warren Tech students also earn industry certifications through their coursework and participate in client work, internships, and job shadows with industry partners. Cosmetology Instructor
Jefferson County Public Schools ~ Teaching Position Description

  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of verified paid work experience as a licensed Cosmetologist and be eligible to obtain a Career Technical (CTE) endorsement by August 1, 2019 in Cosmetology, and hold a valid Colorado Cosmetology License.

  • Job Duties:
    • Collect and record Cosmetology State Board hours.
    • Participate in program reviews, advisory committee meetings, and department meetings.
    • Work with cosmetology instructors on ordering supplies for class.
    • Market program for clients and students.
    • Work to maintain continuity between each of the cosmetology programs.
    • Write and update curriculum with other instructors for all cosmetology programs.
    • Supervise customer service and cash flow.
    • Teach all levels of cosmetology, including theory.
    • Responsible for safety, sanitation, attendance, and discipline as necessary.
    • Prepare students for State Board exam and entry level positions in the cosmetology field.
    • Work closely with Intervention Services instructor.
    • Prepare tests and class projects; grade papers; average grades, prepare grade reports, and coordinate make-up tests and assignments.
    • Prepare lesson plans, prepare lectures, and write course syllabus and curriculum.
    • Select textbooks, videos, internet activities, and gather outside project materials.
    • Prepare attendance reports and adhere to Jeffco Public Schools attendance policy.
    • Work on assigned committees, attend school-wide events, attend professional development conferences, attend faculty meetings, and keep current with inventory and budget.
    • Maintain career and technical education certification.
    • Submit and maintain contractual agreements with all clinical agencies.
    • Collaborate with other program instructors.
    IV. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
      Knowledge of the cosmetology fields including hairstyling, esthetics, nail tech, etc. Work effectively and harmoniously with administration, students, parents, staff, and industry and community college partners. Instruct initial and ongoing Cosmetology education classes according to approved or required standards. Maintain classrooms, labs, and equipment, and operate equipment. Respond to inquiries, provide information and instruction, and advise students. Assist in the development and maintenance of cosmetology training and certification reports, records, logs, etc., for students. Communicate verbally and in writing to matters related to Cosmetology program to administration, local agencies and the community college. Oversee and participate in student organization. Create and prepare various documents such as annual training budget or reports, recommendations, new or revised policies or procedures, etc. Operate automated office equipment such as photocopier, computer, printer, fax and have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Help maintain an overall safe training environment and clean equipment. Continuously update and revise curriculum to meet industry and community college needs. Responsible for recruiting industry partners and establish and hold annual advisory meetings with industry partners. Knowledge of the equipment and supplies employed in the care of clients. Ability to function as an instructor in a classroom, clinical, or supervised field setting. Ability to interpret and apply established policies and procedures. Collaborate and coordinate all activities associated with other cosmetology instructors. Ensure compliance with generally accepted standards and/or operational requirements. Represent the school district at regularly scheduled training and safety committee meetings, conferences, and other educational and professional meetings within the community, county, and state for the purpose of staying current in new cosmetology training trends and technologies. Consistently evaluate school training policies and procedures to ensure all students are meeting the minimum requirements on a continual basis. Perform additional non-teaching duties as assigned.

    V. Physical Requirements:
      Tasks will require frequent sitting, standing or walking, and may include extended periods of time standing in a classroom or field setting. Tasks may involve the lifting of persons (clients) or items of various weights in a teaching setting. Tasks require dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, or body in the operation of all equipment related to cosmetology program and/or office equipment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    SUMMARY: Responsible for the delivery of specified course content. Responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that results in students achieving academic success.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    - Orient students to their coursework and communicate course requirements.

    - Employ asynchronous and synchronous tools to supplement course content.

    - Create and deliver live and recorded instructional sessions.

    - Maintain regular office hours to provide students or parents one-on-one and small group support.

    - Augment course content in the form of remediation, modification, and enrichment.

    - Partner with special education staff to implement student's IEP's, ALP's and 504's.

    - Set deadlines for student work and grant extensions.

    - Attend face-to-face meetings with students and parent/guardian, as scheduled.

    - Grade student work, enter grades into an online gradebook, and provide course grade.

    - Communicate with parents as needed.

    - Collaborate with other instructional staff.

    - Administer school-wide assessments including CMAS, SAT/PSAT, and MAP.

    - Conduct student/parent/teacher conferences.

    - Attend (virtual and physical) and actively participate in all required staff meetings and professional development.

    - Perform other duties as assigned.

    EXPERIENCE A minimum of five years successful teaching experience. Experience with curriculum, assessment, staff development, and online learning. Experience with effective use of technology with teachers and/or students supporting educational technology initiatives. Awareness, understanding, and application of a guaranteed and viable curriculum. Previous experience or current thinking about culturally responsive teaching that relates to achievement issues for all students. Demonstrated success using technology to ensure technological literate students.

    EDUCATION AND TRAINING Valid Colorado teaching license or certificate. Advanced degree or comparable experience in content area.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Must possess demonstrated skills in classroom and online implementation of best practices in instructional strategies, demonstrated success in working with learners, proficiency with Blackboard, and experience with leading online learning. Demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of standard District technology, ability to effectively and efficiently use for a variety of purposes, and demonstrated success in using technology and information literacy in instruction. Willingness to learn new technology. Ability to help others make sense of and adjust to change. Must be flexible and have capacity for dealing with ambiguity. Willingness to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability in interpreting assessment data collected from a variety of sources. Willingness to be a contributing member of the school.
