ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Summit Ridge Middle School serves students grade 6-8 with an academic robust curriculum. At Summit Ridge, we believe in the true middle school model and believe in team teaching. We believe that team teaching is advantageous for middle school students, as it promotes student bonding and fosters closer relationships between teachers and students. Additionally, team teaching promotes interdisciplinary instruction and coordination. Within the Dakota Ridge Articulation Area, we believe in supporting our students' through their PreK-12 learning experience. Summit Ridge Middle School is currently in a candidacy school for the MYP. Summit Ridge is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. In addition to our academic rigor, we offer a variety of elective courses that provide our students with an exploratory model that adds to the holistic approach to our students education. Student athletics and extracurricular activities are highly encouraged. Many of our students compete in our Middle School Sports Program and school sponsored clubs.

SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the principal, this position includes primary responsibility for the secretarial functions of a middle school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Act as a positive ambassador for middle school as receptionist. Schedule meetings and events, Saturday School.

Responsible for time and attendance of all staff members, including substitute teachers, plus complete electronic paperwork for covering classes when there are no subs.

Organize, format, enter, transcribe and edit all correspondence, bulletins, notices, newsletters, master schedules, end of the year reports. Maintain time lines paperwork for MRD's and report cards.

Provide temporary coverage for other secretaries. Enroll new students, update files and forward student files. Administer one- day count audit.

Assign and update voice mail numbers. Type daily announcements. Enter school announcements electronically into Bulletin Board. Listen to sub data via voice mail.

Operate and check maintenance on photocopy, fax machines and printers.

State District and school policies/procedures to students, staff and public. Attend staff meetings and transcribe notes or dictation, publish minutes and reports.

Keep secure and dispense room, desk and cabinet keys and keep organized and locked for security.

Train and lead the work of clerical staff, education assistants student assistants.

Organize/maintain all confidential operational records and files. Compile, monitor and prepare reports on supplies, facilities and equipment.

Provide illness/accident attention and First Aide when necessary. Complete accident forms as appropriate. Administer medications to students.

Responsible for completing and forwarding all personnel action forms/personnel evaluation forms. Collaborate with principal regarding hiring of staff. Conduct in-service for new teachers.

Maintain job skills to keep pace with modern technology. Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: 3 or more years' secretarial experience. Experience in a school district department or school setting preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Requires strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, proofreading, customer service, diplomacy, and advanced microcomputer skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job. Operating knowledge of and experience with computers, office software (Microsoft Office - Word & Excel), Internet, e-mail and general office equipment at time of hire. Knowledge of District policies and procedures preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: First Aid & CPR Certificate highly recommended.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: May be responsible for assigning, directing work, and training secretaries, sub-secretaries, clerical staff, paraprofessionals, and/or student aides in the office. May also have input into hiring and discipline processes. Acts as a departmental resource for staff.

CONTACTS: Daily and/or hourly contact with persons within/outside department/building, students, parents, vendors/suppliers, general public, applicants, and/or District advisory committees requiring tact and diplomacy to maintain relationships, resolve problems, and negotiate matters, often involving confidential and/or highly confidential matters.

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: Medium exposure to self to repetitive motion injuries due to key boarding. Low exposure to self to cuts and bruises due to typical office accidents.
