ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Warren Tech is the premier Career and Technical Education (CTE) center for Jefferson County Public Schools. An educational and technological leader, Warren Tech integrates academics in career and technical education, preparing students for both college and career. Warren Tech students are engaged and committed to their programs, which is evidenced by a 93% attendance rate, 96% graduation rate, and a 97% program completion rate. Virtually all programs offer academic credit in 11th or 12th grade math, science, and English, which counts toward their graduation. AP coursework is also offered by some programs. Another hallmark of Warren Tech's success is the college credit awarded to our students each year. Last year, our students earned nearly 13,000 Red Rocks Community College credits. A large number of students attend colleges and universities after finishing Warren Tech, and some students have even earned an Associate's degree in a Warren Tech program before they finish high school. Warren Tech students also earn industry certifications through their coursework and participate in client work, internships, and job shadows with industry partners. JOB DESCRIPTION
WARREN TECH ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL JEFFERSON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements follow State of Colorado guidelines for principal licensure. Requires the following:
  • Master's degree or higher
  • Current Colorado Principal license, and Teacher and/or CTE Teacher Licenses

  • MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide shared leadership for the school improvement process, including specific leadership for Staff Process Improvement Teams in the areas of school environment, school safety, school facility, and student attendance.
  • Shared leadership for the attainment of school improvement goals related to the improvement of student success and increased student achievement. Results-oriented responsibilities would fall into the areas of goal setting, action planning, and staff development.
  • Provide shared leadership with the Career Services team (counselors and registrar) regarding student data and enrollment. Administrative oversight for all processes involving student application, registration, and enrollment.
  • Administrative oversight for all processes involving student grading, report cards, transcripts, and student records.
  • Fulfill all responsibilities of School Assessment Coordinator as it relates to CSAP and ACT testing for students at Warren Tech.
  • Primary responsibility for administration of student attendance and discipline policies. This includes collaborating with staff on student improvement plans, and implementation of disciplinary actions including suspension or expulsion, if necessary.
  • Collaborative leadership with school personnel in the area of instructional technology. This involves collaborative planning with the school's staff developer in the area of instructional technology.
  • Administrative oversight for the career and technical programs as part of the regular program approval process. This position would work with teachers in programs that have changes to the career and technical educational program plan. Such changes would include curriculum enhancements, and improvements in other areas that are not up to expected standards.
  • Responsibility for the school calendar.
  • Administrative responsibility for the school's career and technical student organizations and will help coordinate student CTSO organization activities.
  • Provide support to the school principal for the implementation of district/school management procedures and policies.

    • Works collaboratively with principal, staff, and business manager to allocate annual budget to programs. Monitors fiscal reports for monthly program expenditures.
    • Recognizes and demonstrates different management styles. Believes in collaborative decision making. Uses an interactive management style with students and staff.
    • Upholds and applies state laws, contractual obligations, and district policies while ensuring due process.

    DECISION MAKING Assist principal in the following areas: Determine staffing levels and budget requirements; develop alternatives and make decisions in crises situations; utilize collaborative decision making skills; and apply good judgment to ensure student safety and carry out student discipline. Decision making authority may be delegated to this position, but final decisions are the responsibility of the principal. Errors could affect the reputation of District and/or compromise student safety and the learning environment.

    COMMUNITY RELATIONS Daily contact with parents, students, and law enforcement officials to exchange information and resolve issues. Assist principal in the following areas: Regular contact with vendors, media, legislatures, and government entities to exchange information; with higher education, partnerships, and businesses to exchange information, develop and maintain programs, maintain relationships, and foster program participation; with government agencies, community individuals and groups, transportation officials, and community colleges to exchange information and resolve issues; and with district attorneys to exchange information regarding legal matters.

    SPAN OF CONTROL Directly supervise counselors, teachers, school resource officers, coaches, club sponsors, classified employees, SERS personnel, and others as assigned. Assist principal with carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    EDUCATIONAL DELIVERY Assist principal in the following areas: Support the instructional programs of the District by supervising and evaluating teachers and administrators and by developing and implementing school instructional programs. Understand the philosophy of standards based education, the processes of curriculum development and effective models of instruction, and lead their implementation in the schools. Manage the development of curriculum and instructional programs that recognize the contributions of diverse groups and foster success for all students regardless of gender, race, or disability. Lead the community in the development of challenging performance standards for students and the development of varied supervisory and evaluation processes. Insure the development of a staff development program that recognizes the principles of adult learning and focuses on student success. Use data to analyze the current state of student learning and serve as a catalyst for and manager of needed change. Understand and lead the use of technology in instruction. The majority of the time is spent at the school site.

    COMPLEXITY OF WORK Requires analytical skills, independent thinking, considerable judgment, and the ability to assess crises and make sound decisions quickly with little time or input from others. Assists with managing personnel, curriculum, student success and discipline, and physical plant. Must have a strong understanding of student behavior, District culture and policies, and be able to quickly analyze the impact of decisions on the student, school, District, and community. Generally, work is complicated by the volume of students at the school site, large budget management responsibilities, and the diversity and severity of student issues and crises.
