Job Description

Please note that this posting is for anticipated openings for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. Locations will vary depending on availability.

ABOUT OUR DISTRICT:

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all - including students who fall behind or have been considered "hard to serve" for a host of reasons. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged Superintendent Jaime Alicea with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Superintendent Alicea is leading an early literacy initiative with the goal of all students reading on grade level by grade 3. This critical work is focused on our youngest students and is intended to establish a solid foundation that will have an enduring impact on students and the district. Currently, far too many of our students are in need of intensive academic intervention in reading.

Early Reading Room Intervention Teachers will support schools and teachers in the continuous improvement process in reading instruction and intervention. They will be expected to engage in and support facilitation of the RTI problem solving process in the school they are assigned. As Intervention Teachers, they will collaborate with building leaders and colleagues to analyze various data sets and interpret results to improve instruction and intervention. They will be responsible for comprehensive record-keeping to monitor and ensure treatment integrity, progress monitoring, and student growth.

Reading intervention is about more than extra supports or additional time; it is about transforming children's futures. For this position, we are seeking passionate educators who will commit to teaching struggling early readers with determination, purpose, integrity, and intensity.
