Job Details

The Specialist's primary responsibility will be to collaborate with K-12 classroom teachers to design and schedule projects (Paideia maker Projects, PBLs, Design Thinking, and Design Challenges) that align with content standards and push kids to think critically while using engineering design processes. This will involve assisting teachers and creating rubrics, graphic organizers for design thinking, timelines, and material lists for projects together. The lab will also be open to our school community during after school "open hours" and/or with special scheduling throughout the day**. The Specialist will facilitate students, families, and community members as they learn design thinking techniques and various digital fabrication software to examine complex problems and prototype solutions. The Specialist will be able to safely operate and perform scheduled maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting basic malfunctions, fixing and/or finding a suitable technician for all equipment in the lab. Lab equipment includes state of the art digital fabrication equipment such as microcontrollers, robotics kits, 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, poster printer/laminator, a CNC router, as well as more traditional fabrication tools for woodworking, sewing, and a heat press. The Specialist will be responsible for teaching students and adults safe practices for all equipment in the lab and for ordering and organizing stock materials and replacement parts for all tools and machines. The Specialist will be part of a network of Hamilton County VW eLab Specialists that participate in professional development opportunities for support and continued growth. As part of a K-12 Paideia School, the Specialist will be familiar with the Paideia Philosophy and utilize the three columns of teaching and learning in a Paideia School (didactic, coaching, and seminar).
