Description:
To provide service to teachers and students through professional learning for evidence-based practices for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), through consultative support in general and special education classrooms, and in selecting, locating, or developing materials for teachers.
Job Summary:
- Provides oral and written feedback to teachers. This involves feedback relative to effective and ineffective instructional strategies and teaching behaviors for students with ASD.
- Plans, organizes, and conducts professional learning for teachers in Fayette County Public Schools for evidence-based practices for students with ASD.
- Plans, organizes, and conducts flexible professional learning for teachers relevant to current trends and research in Autism Spectrum Disorders. Relates effective, evidence-based instructional practices for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- Assists in planning, organizing, and conducting presentations for evidence-based practices for students with Autism.
- Supports teachers in establishing effective classrooms.
- Supports teachers in developing a discipline plan for their classrooms if needed.
- Supports teachers in designing effective, evidence-based instructional programs.
- Supports teachers in appropriately planning evidence-based instruction relative to students' IEPs.
- Supports teachers in developing monitoring systems to document individual progress.
- Provides model teaching, if needed, and/or necessary.
- Supports teachers in assessing students and organizing assessment data to plan instruction.
- Supports teachers in securing appropriate instructional materials
- Develops and produces instructional materials to support access to curriculum.
- Supports teachers in evaluating the effectiveness of their programs for students with ASD.
- Supports teachers in adapting and/or refining existing behavior management systems for students with ASD.
- Provides follow-up assistance in relation to implementation of Fayette County Public Schools special education requirements. This includes:
- Reviewing IEP's, as needed, to determine if they are appropriate and functional for the students.
- Providing assistance in administering any additional assessments if needed.
- Observing and providing feedback regarding direct instruction and teaching strategies.
- Supports teachers in developing and/or revising current monitoring systems.
- Supports teachers in securing, developing, and organizing materials for effective use within their classrooms.
- Troubleshooting" for difficult to reach students.
- Maintains regular attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Master Degree in Education, or related field
- 3 years teaching experience or related experience in the field of education
- Valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate in Special Education or relevant equivalent (Speech Pathologist, School Psychologist)
- Supervisor of Instruction, Director of Special Education or Exceptional Child Consultant Certificate
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (Preferred)
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing
- Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
- Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching
- Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights
