Position at IDEA Public Schools

Consultant Title: Course Content Writer Independent Contractor and Consultant: Algebra 1 ("Algebra 1 Consultant").

Coordinates Project with: IDEA Public Schools' Curriculum Manager ("Curriculum Manager") and Academic Services - Mathematics.

Days/Hours: 15-30 hours per week until Course Content Writing project is completed (anticipated time to completion is approximately 1,360 hours). Algebra 1 Consultant will not have a set work schedule, but may be required to coordinate with the Curriculum Manager or other school representatives during normal school business hours.

Location: Remote.

Consultant Mission: The Algebra 1 Consultant will play an active role in assisting IDEA Public Schools to create course content that aligns to the TEKS, AP course standards, and ACT readiness standards, along with the IDEA Public Schools scope and sequence and teacher coaching structures. The Algebra 1 Consultant will consult and collaborate with the Curriculum Manager to assist with creating curricular materials that provide explicit content and pedagogical guidance in implementing rigorous, vertically aligned instruction. The Algebra 1 Consultant will also engage with the Curriculum Manager to facilitate structured content writing training and peer review processes to ensure product consistency across the content writing team.

Primary Consultant Responsibilities:

The Algebra 1 Consultant will work on key tasks, not limited to:
  • Author scripted, daily lesson plans that include: rationale, teacher notes, differentiation guidance, guiding questions, concept instruction, exploration activities, and student-facing tasks (such as Do Now, Problem Set, Exit Ticket, and Homework);
  • Ensure alignment of curricular products to TEKS, AP and ACT readiness standards, and the IDEA scope and sequence and teacher coaching structures;
  • Collaborate with Computer Science Content Writer to integrate computer science readiness into math curricular materials that apply math concepts through a lens of AP Computer Science Principles big ideas;
  • Create scaffolding and accommodations to meet the needs of all learners, including English language learners, special education students, students performing below grade level, and students performing above grade level;
  • Revise curricular products during review processes and after pilot feedback;
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Manager to ensure content accuracy and valid, developmentally appropriate sequencing of concepts;
  • Participate in regular communication with the Curriculum Manager to ensure products meet IDEA standards and are consistent with products developed by the content writing team;
  • Contribute to the creation of professional development content and implementation support to facilitate effective content delivery by teachers;
  • Provide high-quality, timely product delivery and communication under remote work environment; and
  • Track work hours in accordance with Scope of Work and invoice IDEA on a monthly basis

    Qualifications

    Education: Bachelor's degree required; Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or closely related field, including Education with an emphasis in Math, preferred.

    Experience:
    • Minimum of three years of Texas teaching experience in Algebra 1,
    • Experience designing curriculum products in Algebra 1, 6-12 th grade preferred.


    Licenses or Certifications: Texas Teaching Certification required; National Board Certification preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills:
    • Deep content knowledge in secondary mathematics, especially in Algebra 1.
    • Proficiency in Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) mathematics assessment standards.
    • Knowledge of ACT College and Career Readiness standards.
    • Knowledge of AP Calculus AB and AP Statistics curriculum is preferred.
    • Superior ability to design curriculum aligned to standards with demonstrated writing ability (curriculum writing sample required).
    • Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills.
    • Knowledge of STEM education development and integration objectives.
    • Identify and replicate best practices in STEM education already occurring at IDEA Public Schools.
    • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to quality curriculum development to further the IDEA Public Schools' mission of college acceptance and persistence for all students.


    Compensation: $30 per hour. Algebra 1 Consultant must track hours worked and submit monthly invoices detailing hours worked and services performed. Algebra 1 Consultant will not be eligible for IDEA Public Schools' employee benefit offerings.
